The senior students of Sambhram Academy of Management Studies came together recently to throw a party for their freshers, welcoming them to the college.
The event had all the trappings of a gala time — plenty of junior-senior interaction, a talent hunt and bunch of fun-filled competitions. Titled Samagama 2012, the party ensured that the fresher's started off their stint at the college on the right note.
To add a fun twist to the programme, the students all wore outfits that were native to their respective countries, along with sporting their national flags.
The senior students organised a week-long talent hunt, during which time they spent time with the juniors and began to identify their various skills and talents.
The hunt included many competitions — debate, singing, dance, collage and essay writing.
The theme for the debate was 'Infrastructure Development and Ecology', while those who participated in the collage had to centre their creations around the topic of global warming.
The week culminated with the grand party, which also had many cultural programmes. Darshana, a first-semester BCom student sang an invocation song, after which she performed a bharatanatyam piece.
Benson and Jacob, first-semester BBM students sang a little tune, after with Neha Rathod and Palchen Tsering — both first-semester BBM students — shook a leg to some popular, upbeat songs.
There was also a rather hilarious 'Mad Ads' performance by Rajath and his team, who had the audience in splits throughout their stint on stage.
More group dances were presented by Pavitra and her friends, from the first-semester BCA batch and Rajeshwari Ajosh and Dipak, who are from the BBM and BCom streams respectively.
After all the festivities and fun, Pankaj Kumar and Abha Karn, both first-semester BBM students, were selected as Mr and Ms Fresher. Abrar Pasha, a third-semester BBM student who was a part of the programme, evidently had a lovely time.
"I put up a dance, along with three other girls from my class. It was a contemporary, hip-hop number," he describes.
What he really liked, however, was that it afforded the seniors a great chance to mingle with the new entrants to the college.
"We spent a lot of time with the freshers and got to know them quite well," he sums up.
