Youth spirit is to be celebrated forever. The six-day 'National Youth Week' celebrations held at the SJR College for Women was just that. The programmes started with around 214 students of the college participating in the different activities of Sri Ramakrishna Math, which were conducted at the National College Grounds, Basavanagudi.

The events began with Swami Vivekananda Jayanthi, where Paramasukhananda Swamy of the Vivekananda Ashram of Ulsoor, was the guest speaker. Students of the college sang the Kannada translation of Song of Sanyasi, which was written by Swami Vivekananda.

To provide a forum for value-based education to students, a book exhibition was held under the auspices of the Vivekananda Ashram in Ulsoor, which concentrated on literature related to personality development, and more.

The celebration continued with a poster and book exhibition on 'Self Development', which was organised by the college, with the support of Brahmakumari Eshwariya Vishva Vidyalaya of Bangalore. In the exhibition, their representatives explained various attractive posters on self-development to the students of the SJR College for Women.

A patriotic film show was held to induce a sense of national consciousness among students. 'Legends
of Bhagath Singh' was screened on the occasion. A debate competition on 'The ideal person of my life', was held the next day to trigger the students' thoughts and direct them to the right path. An essay contest on the topic 'problems of women in various fields of life and their solution', was also held as a part of the week-long
festivities.

Harshitha Kummathi, a final-year student, who took part in the essay and quiz competitions, said, "The activities helped sharpen our thoughts and views as youngsters, and make us more aware. I really liked the book exhibition and bought some books. There was a huge crowd for it as there was a variety of books at subsidised prices."

Monica Prakash, the cultural vice-president of the college, commented, "The variety of events held at the college made the 'Youth Week' celebrations a hit. There was something for everyone, varying from the film show to the exhibitions to the competitive events."
