While most colleges have one annual cultural fest, Surana College hosted its second cultural fest 'Fiesta 2013' recently. The fest had all the elements for a gala event and at the same time, it gave the students a platform to showcase their talents.
The stage was set and so were the participants. The main events for the evening were dance, instrumental music, karaoke and a fashion show. The intra-collegiate fest was a fun-filled evening as the students took the competition in the right spirit and put their best foot forward.
What really stood out was the way it was organised — everything was systematic and in place. Interestingly, the fest was organised by the students of second-year BBM. Nishanth A V, a student says, "The business management students are known for organising management fests, but for a change, through this, we gained experience in organising a 'cultural fest' as well."
All the competitions saw participation by Degree and Pre-University students of the college. The theme of the fest was 'Unmask Your Maverick Traits'. "We wanted to unveil the hidden and unique talents of the students.
Whoever won the competitions and represented the college in various fests this academic year were not allowed to take part in any of the competitions. We wanted to give an opportunity to those students who never got a chance to showcase their talent. Hence all the events had fresh talent," he says.
The dance saw many shake a leg to numbers from latest movies and no item numbers were allowed on stage. Anand Atre, a second-year student, who was the emcee of the event, says that all the events were equally good and well organised. "In fact, the audience really enjoyed the dance competition. And of course, the fashion show. With corporate wear being the theme, we got to see a good collection of formal attire, showcased by the students," adds Anand.
