With dance, music and filmi dialogues, it was a trip down memory lane for Bangaloreans at Garuda Mall. The mall recently concluded a fest, dedicated to a hundred years of Indian cinema, with a splendid affair.

Ashwath and Ajay performing. The evening started with the mall's representatives felicitating the yesteryear heroines Leelavathi, Bharathi Vishnuvardhan, Jayanthi, director S K Bhagwan and dancer, actor and singer, Vinod Raj.

The evening's performance progressed with dance sequences by the performers from the Shadows Dance Studio, which also included some sequences with film actresses in them.

The sequences that were performed at the event included a fusion of contemporary, hip-hop and Dollu Kunita; numbers — such as tunes like Chamak Challo, Tumbo Nodbedi, Kaadal Vandale and Poovai, to which actress Janhavi Kamath also shook a leg.

Other numbers performed included Hadipa, Nagada and Love Aajkal.

Then, there were performances to item songs like Chikni Chameli, Naakumuka and Halkat Jawani — where actress Priyanka Chandra accompanied the artistes from the dance troupe — and the evening's finale included numbers like Dhinkachika, Bhool Bhulaiya, Pungi, and Tumhi Ho Bandhu, where both the heroines joined the performers on the stage.

Actresses Bharathi and Leelavathi joined Janhavi for one song, making the crowd break into applause and whistles. Priyanka also did a dance piece with Vinod Raj.

The evening was interspersed with enactments by Ashok Basti, to the songs Naneruvude Nimagagi and Yaru Tilaru Ninna Buja Balada Parakrama; Jayashree Raja on Havini Dwesha, Karnatakada Itihasadali and Chamundi Taye Yane and Boja Raja on Geetanjali, Bandalo Bandalo Kanchana and Santhoshakke Hadu Santhoshakke.

With costumes, hairstyle, body language and dialogues, the artistes mimicked different legendary stars and amused the audience.

Vinod Raj left the audience spellbound with his performance on a popular track 'Dance, Dance' and also entertained the audience with Michael Jackson's 'We are the World'.
Gokul, the choreographer of the sequences of Shadows Dance Studio, says, "To be a part of this event was a great delight. We just had a week's practice for the event, so we included a lot of the contemporary pieces that we have had ready for a couple of years, but rarely perform."

"To see that these beautiful actresses of yesterday are so proud of their past and the industry is just amazing. The energy on the stage was more than one could expect," adds M R Rajesh, a software consultant and an audience member.
