Industrial Design and Technology course
The Design School at Loughborough University, UK, has started inviting applications for its BA (Hons) in Industrial Design and Technology course. The University has a national reputation of excellence in the field of design and its Design School has been rated 7th for Art and Design by Times Good City Guide 2012.
The 3-year full time BA (Hons) Industrial Design and Technology is a highly visual and people-centred discipline that requires the creativity and vision to produce innovative product solutions to real problems. The course is specifically designed at developing students' knowledge and abilities in areas such as styling, manufacturing, business, sustainability, materials and technology. They would get an opportunity to gain skills in sketching, CAD, rapid prototyping, product styling, brand awareness, user-led innovation, materials/processes, the development/communication of ideas, ergonomics, sustainable design, techniques of planning, and the production of models, prototypes and finished artefacts.
The course is also available as a 4-year work placement (sandwich) programme wherein students will get industrial or professional work experience incorporated between periods of academic study at the University. With this, the students will be awarded with Diploma in Professional Studies for successful completion of the course along with their degrees.
Students with an overall score of 75% in Class 12, with 80% in Art, Design and Technology are eligible to apply. The programme commences in September 2013 and the last date to apply is January 15, 2013. The fee structure for the BA (Hons) programme is £16,750. Cartoon competition
Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC) in association with Indian Institute of Cartoonists announces 'MAAC-artoon 2012', an intercollegiate cartoon competition for students belonging to the age group of 15 to 21 years, across all colleges in Bangalore.
Interested students can register at any of the MAAC centres in Bangalore.
As a part of the contest, the participants are required to create their artwork based on the theme, 'Water Shortage' and submit it by November 22, 2012. Each participant has the liberty to send up to three entries either in black and white or colour format in an A3 size hard copy with their age proof and complete details mentioning their name, age, date of birth, education qualification, address and contact information behind the entry. K N Balraj, cartoonist, copy writer and sculptor will judge the best entry. Artworks of 30 finalists will be displayed at the Indian cartoon gallery from December 4, 2012 to December 20, 2012 and added to the archives of the association.
This contest would provide an opportunity to all interested candidates to showcase their artistic skills. The shortlisted candidates will then compete among themselves live on the finale day on December 1, 2012. The winners of the contest would be awarded prizes like Samsung Galaxy Ace plus and Wacom Intuos tablet.

ISBF's full time MBA programme
Indian School of Business and Finance has launched a full-time MBA degree programme in partnership with the City University of Seattle, USA with specialisations in Finance, Marketing and Human Resource Management.

The National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD) has launched its fourth one-year Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Sustainable Rural Development, in distance mode commencing from January 1, 2013. It will be offered in two semesters with 32 credits. The PG Diploma will be awarded by the NIRD.
Eligibility: A graduate degree in any discipline from a UGC recognised University.
For foreign applicants, degree of their University should be recognised by their government and their competence in English should be ensured.
Programme Fee: Rs. 20,000 (Rs. 18,000 for SC/ST/PH), to be deposited in two equal installments at the commencement of each semester. For sponsored candidates, full fee will have to be deposited at the time of admission. Fee for NRIs and foreign nationals is $1700 to be paid at the time of admission.
