Dance

Bharatanatyam

The ICCR is presenting a bharatanatyam recital by A Lakshman on August 11, 6.30 pm at Khincha Auditorium, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. This is being held under the 'Horizon Series'.

'Rangapravesha'

'Articulate Ability' is holding the bharatanatyam rangapravesha of six visually-challenged girls — Gulabsha, Lathamani, Pallavi, Rashmi, Sowmya and Suma — on August 18, 6 pm at ADA Rangamandira, J C Road.

In rhythm

The sixth batch of students of Attakkalari's Diploma in Movement Arts and Mixed Media will have their graduation presentations on August 24, 7 pm at JSS Auditorium, Jayanagar.
The evening will showcase the students' work. Also, the final auditions for the diploma batch of 2012-13 are in progress.

Paying tribute

'The Golden Voices and Brass Band' of The Frank Anthony Public School is paying a tribute to celebrate 25 years of Bangalore School of Music on August 10, 7.30 pm at Alliance Francaise. 'The Frank Anthony Public School Treble Choir', comprising schoolgirls, between the ages of 11 and 18, under the guidance of V Narayanaswamy, will sing a variety of pieces, ranging from hymns to jazz to western classics. The 'Frank Anthony Public School Brass Band' is considered to be among the top brass bands in India. Entry is through donation cards. For details, call 41285017.

'Dasa Vaani'

Gokhale Institute of Public Affairs and Nadanubhava will present Dasa Vaani by Hindustani classical vocalist Smita Bellur on August 11, 6 pm at Gokhale Institute of Public Affairs, Bull Temple Road, N R Colony. Entry is free.

Memorial concert

'Vainika Vidwan G N Subramanyam Memorial Concert' will be held at Ananya Sabhangana, 91/2, 4th Main, between 11th and 13th Cross, Malleswaram, on August 12, 6 pm. Vidwan Dakshinamurthy will be on veena, Bangalore R Ramanath on mridangam and N S Krishnaprasad on ghatam.

Voice apart

Legendary radio anchor Ameen Sayani will anchor Geetmala Ke Amar Sangeetkar on August 15, 6 pm for Rotary's fundraiser in aid of 'Dialysis Machines Project' at Chowdiah Hall. A veena recital by R A Dakshina Murthy will be held on August 18, 6 pm at Sri Dattatreya Temple premises, Thyagarajanagar. It is organised by Sangeetha Krupa Kuteera. Murthy will be accompanied on mridangam by G S Nagaraj and morsing by Ajay Srinivasa Murthy.

Flute recital

A flute recital by Prakash Hegde Kallaremane from North Canara will be held under the 'Every Friday Cultural Evening Programme' of the ICCR on August 10, 6.30 pm at Yavanika, State Youth Centre, Nrupathunga Road.

Splendid feast

AIM, an organisation initiated by Suma Sudhindra and Veena Murthy Vijay, will present 'BIAF Celebrates Harmony Through Arts' from August 31 to September 16. On August 31, 6 pm, Kadri Gopalanath will present a saxophone recital at Chowdiah Hall.

At 6.30 pm, Ranjana Gauhar will present an odissi recital — Chitrangada, a dance-drama based on Rabindranath Tagore's literary works.

Drama

'Sangeet Maanapaman'

Karhade Mitra Mandal, a socio-cultural organisation, is presenting the Marathi
musical drama Sangeet Maanapaman, written by Kakasaheb Khadilkar on August 19, 10.15 am at Ravindra Kalakshetra. This is a 100 year-old-play and was initially popularised by the legendary Balagandharva. Classical vocalist Rahul Deshpande has now revived it.

'Rigmarole'

Bangalore Little Theatre is putting together a production of Sai Paranjpye's 'Rigmarole' which centres around the visit of Princess Lizinia of Batuslavakia.
It will be organising a reading of excerpts from Rigmarole on August 10, 7 pm at Atta Galatta in Koramangala to give the audience a preview of the upcoming production.

'Nam Thim...'

Vasp, the theatre group, is staging Nam Thim Thana on August 16, 7.30 pm at Ranga Shankara. Nam Thim Thana is a comedy play with six short stories.
It is a blend of few short stories by BeeChi and few taken from 'BeeChi Bullets', a book written by teachers of Rangayana.

Whimsical play

The Tortilla Entertainment Company will present 'The Seussification Of Romeo and Juliet', directed by Judith Roby Bidapa, at the Alliance Francaise on August 17 (7.30 pm) and August 18 and 19 (3.30 pm and 7.30 pm). It is a funny and whimsical play written in verse and has slapstick elements that add to the hilarity.

'A Walk in...'

Louis Philippe, in support of India Foundation for the Arts, will present the
Bangalore premiere of the English play 'A Walk in the Woods', featuring Naseeruddin Shah and Rajit Kapoor, at Chowdiah Memorial Hall on August 17, 7.30 pm.

It is written by American playwright Lee Blessing and directed by Ratna Pathak Shah. The play, produced by Motley, is an adaptation of Blessing's work of the same name. The play also marks Ratna's directorial debut. Donor passes are available on www.indianstage.in and www.bookmyshow.com

'Namma Metro'

WeMove Theatre's Kannada play Namma Metro will be staged at Ranga Shankara on August 14 and 15, 7.30 pm. The play revolves around the story of four Bangaloreans who live and talk about Bangalore throughout the play discussing things and all the changes that are happening in and around Bangalore.

Creative strokes

A group exhibition by Ashu Gupta and Kanthi V will be held at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishat, Kumara Krupa Road from August 14, 5 pm to 7 pm.
The exhibition will continue till August 20, 10.30 pm to 7 pm.
The exhibition will have paintings by Ashu Gupta and Kanthi V who have as their theme various dance forms (Nritya) and the beauty of birds ('Flying High') respectively.

'The Smiling Line'

As part of its fifth anniversary, the Indian Cartoon Gallery, No. 1, Midford House, Midford Garden, off MG Road, is holding 'The Smiling Line', a convention of cartoonists on August 13. The convention will encompass a series of events including a mega cartoon exhibition, distribution of 'Maya Kamath Memorial Awards 2011' and release of a souvenir-cum-directory of cartoonists. The exhibition will be open to public till September 1.

Iconic collection

The NGMA is organising an exhibition 'Ramkinkar Baij - A Retrospective', curated by K S Radhakrishnan. Ramkinkar Baij was one among the seminal artists of modern India. He was not only an iconic sculptor but also a painter and graphic artist. The exhibition has more than 350 works from various important collections. The exhibition is on view at the NGMA, Palace Road till August 14. The gallery is open from 10 am to 5 pm on all days except Mondays.

'Finding Nowhere'

Shibu Arakkal, a Bangalore-based photographer, is holding an exhibition titled 'Finding Nowhere' at Kynkyny Art till August 18.

'Confluence'

'Confluence', the visual art exhibition by Sandhya K Sirsi showcasing the expressions of life, will be on at Tangerine, Indiranagar till August 12 . The exhibition is an interpretation in art from the experiences faced or observed by Sandhya. Her paintings are based on the theme evolution, which is evident from her minimalist approach and portrayal of colours.

Mixed treat

As a tribute to Mathoor Krishnamurthy, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan is presenting a seminar, music concert and dance recital on Jayadeva's Geeta Govinda on August 8, 5 pm. The venue is Khincha Auditorium, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

Exhibition

On the occasion of Janmashtami, Vermilion House is holding an exhibition of Krishna paintings in Tanjore, Mysore, glass, Nathadwara, Ravi Varma prints, bronze and wood
figurines on August 9, 5 pm and August 10 and 11 (from 10.30 am to 7 pm)
at Vermilion House, 3/12, Cleveland Road Cross.

'Egyptian Film 678'

'Egyptian Film 678', directed by Mohamed Diab, will be screened at Suchitra Cinema and Cultural Academy on August 12, 10.30 am. This will be followed by a panel discussion.

Screening

The screening of Travelling Film South Asia (TFSA) films will be held on August 17 and 18, 6.30 pm at Bangalore International Centre, Teri Complex, 4th Main, 2nd Cross, Domlur II Stage. On August 17, 'Saving Dolma' directed by Kesang Tseten from Nepal will be screened. The language is Nepali and Arabic. On the same day, 'Kerosene', directed by Kannan Arunasalam, from Sri Lanka in English and Tamil will be screened. Watch 'Partners in Crime' by Paromita Vohra on August 18. The language is English and Hindi. On the same day, 'Tres Tristes Tigres' ( 'Three Sad Tigers') by David Munoz from Bangladesh will be screened. The language is Bangla. Many weaves

'Weaves India 2012', the silk and cotton exhibition-cum-sale, will be held till August 12 at Chitrakala Parishat, Kumara Krupa Road. The exhibition is showcasing silk and cotton products made by artisans from across the country.
