QI am 17 years old and I have curly hair. I would like to grow my hair long but that tends to create split ends. My hair is dry and frizzy. I regularly oil it before shampooing. How can I reduce split ends and make my hair soft and silky?

A With curly or frizzy hair, hair growth will not be obvious. Twice a week, heat some pure coconut oil and apply it on the hair. Then dip a towel in hot water, squeeze out the water and wrap the hot towel around the head, like a turban. Keep it on for five minutes. Repeat the hot towel wrap three or four times. This helps the hair and scalp absorb the oil better. Use a mild herbal shampoo. Use less shampoo and rinse well with water. After shampoo, apply a creamy conditioner, taking less quantity and massaging it lightly into the hair.

Leave it on for two minutes and rinse with plain water. Or apply a "leave-on" type of conditioner or hair serum. Apply it the same way, but do not rinse it off. The other option is to mix some water with a creamy hair-conditioner and put it in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture on the hair. Then comb the hair, so that it spreads evenly. Avoid hot water to wash the hair. After shampoo, wrap a towel around the head and let it soak up the excess water. Avoid rubbing and tugging at the roots. If you use a hair dryer, use a big round brush. Divide the hair into sections. Pin them up and dry one section at a time. Blow in a downward direction. Using a blow dryer can cause more frizz.
