Adorned with ornaments, trinkets and brightly-coloured saris, young ladies took the stage and enthralled the audience at Seva Sadan Auditorium with their striking expressions and poses.
Sai Nrityotsav - 39, a classical dance concert, was recently conducted by Sai Arts International to encourage budding dancers and to showcase their talent on a well-known platform. "Sai Nrityotsav is a monthly affair and is usually organised on the first day of every month. The mission is to create a common platform for gurus to present their students' dance skills, along with other up-and-coming artistes," says Mysore B Nagaraj, who was a part of the show.
Eleven students of Swetha Venkatesh skilfully performed Pushpanjali, Ganesha Kauthuvam dedicated to Lord Ganesha, Jai Shiva Shambo devoted to Lord Shiva, Allaripu and Thillana in brindavani raaga. All five dance numbers were executed by small groups of young girls.
Classical dancer Shruthi Mahadevan, a student of Guru Shobha Shashikumar, took the stage for a kriti, Shambho Mahadeva, in which she described Lord Shiva as the compassionate one, who protected the three worlds from annihilation by swallowing the poison that arose from the churning of the milk ocean.
She portrayed with poise a devarnama, Budhimathu Helidare, expressing beautiful simplicity. With a round of applause from the audience, Divya Devaguptapu, an accomplished professional bharatanatyam dancer and choreographer, elegantly performed two dances.
The first one was maata parashakti in which she performed selected verses of Mahakavi Bharatiyar's poem on Goddess Shakti, describing her as the universal mother and also depicting the five elements of nature. She moved on to an expressive ashtapadi in which the sakhi explains to Lord Hari about Radha's passionate state as she sits in the retreat of vines.
The stage came alive when Malini Agrahar, a student of Guru Sriranjitha and G S Nagesh, started with a varna, a piece in praise of Lord Krishna. She performed the Padam Varattum Sami with great composure and also praised Lord Subrahmanya with Khandita Nayaki Bhava'.
Sajini N concluded the event with a beautiful dance that mesmerised the spectators.
