To meet the growing demands of the English language and related soft skills, British Council will be conducting a series of training workshops on task-based learning, designing materials and courses using stories, songs and pictures in the classroom, teaching pronunciation, professional development, using learn English booklets and teaching vocabulary.

These workshops are aimed at teachers from the middle and secondary sections and higher education sectors in India.

The aim of these sessions is to equip teachers with effective teaching tools, resources, practical ideas and activities that they can implement in their own classroom. The workshops have been developed, complete with materials and certified by the British Council.

A 'certificate of participation' will be provided to all participants attending the workshop.
British Council's communicative learning approach includes a learner-centric approach with trainees participating in a variety of tasks and interactive patterns which they can use to teach and develop their students' skills.

The trainer will introduce useful ideas and theory in the same way that participants should introduce or practice materials or ideas in class. They will then be asked to reflect on the activity and consider how they can use it or adapt it in their own classrooms.

Participants will be asked to share ideas and knowledge in small groups by brainstorming on different issues, student problems or areas of the syllabus, focusing upon case studies and actual situations.

Wherever possible, a participant's own work situation will be used as a basis for role-play.

The second workshop will focus on helping individuals continue their professional development. The course aims : to reflect on one's career pathway so far , to explore the benefits of continuing professional development, to consider and discuss a variety of courses and resources for developing professionally, to identify which of the courses and resources are the most suitable for each participant, and to plan a course of action for one's own professional development

The third workshop will solely focus on task-based learning. The course aims to introduce the principles of Task Based Learning, (TBL), to consider what constitutes a 'task', to experience performing tasks in groups, to discuss potential problems with TBL, etc.

All three workshops will be conducted on August 22, 2012 at the British Library, 23, Kasturba Road Cross, Bangalore - 560001. Registration fee per participant is Rs 1,000. The course fee is inclusive of all training materials, trainer costs, refreshments and stationery.

To register nominated participant/participants, schools will have to fill out the application form and send it along with the fee to the British Council office in Bangalore, so that a place can be reserved for their member of staff. For further details, contact the British Council.
