A film that strikes a chord
Aalaap is a film which promises the audience a great experience — it is a touching and heartwarming tale, infused with a generous dose of music.
A special screening of the film was recently held, and the cast and crew of the film were present for the same — including actor Amit Purohit, director Manish Manikpuri, producers Nishant Tripathi and Abhishek Mishra, sufi singer Mudasir Ali and RJ Dhruv.
The film — which touches on the topic of Naxalism — definitely made an impact. Mudasir Ali confessed that he was used to being a cop and was witness to the violence in Kashmir. "When I quit the gun for the guitar, it was not an easy choice — but I know my music has more power than the gun. I totally identify with Aaalaap and am overwhelmed," he admits. Manish Manikpuri adds, "Though my film is based on Naxalism in Chattisgarh, I am so happy that it is striking a chord throughout the country." This is definitely one to look out for.
Same voice, different tunes
Ranbir Kapoor's character may be deaf and mute in his upcoming film Barfi!, but for the title track of the film, Mohit Chauhan will lend his voice to the actor.
When director Anurag Basu and the producers were planning the track, they mutually decided that Mohit would be perfect for the song.
Ranbir is very excited that Mohit will sing the title track Aala Re Barfi.
In the past, whenever Mohit has given his voice to Ranbir, it has been well-received by the audience — after all, the numbers in 'Rockstar' were immediate hits.
The actor is very happy that the makers have taken this association ahead with this one.
However all the tracks in the film will be a part of the background score. Mohit's voice has a lingering quality that stays on your mind for long.
Barfi! is a touching tale on a boy named Murphy, who is always ready with a prank up his sleeve.
The flick revolves around the bittersweet relationship he shares with two young ladies — Shruti, played by Ileana D'Cruz and Jhilmil, played by Priyanka Chopra.
Campaign with a starry twist
Yogesh Lakhani recently kicked off a campaign called 'We Love Mumbai' with a bevy of Bollywood stars at Marimba Lounge in Andheri West.
The entire cast of the film 'From Sydney With Love' came for the event. Diana Hayden, Payal Rohatgi, Sangram Singh, Riyaz Gangji, Miss Srilanka Chandi Pereira, Sanjeev Kapoor, Yuvika Chaudhry, Vishwajeet Pradhan and Sunil Pal also came for the event, besides Anupam Kher.
Evelyn Sharma, Bidita Bag, Karan Sagoo, Sharad Malhotra and Prateek Chakravorty enjoyed the concept. Yogesh Lakhani unveiled all the posters at the event.
The posters of Lalbagh Ka Raja, Nariman Point, Haji Ali and BMC headquarters were unveiled.
Saeeda Imtiyaz, from Pakistan, also came for the event.
He's always the cop!
Actors may do whatever they can to avoid being typecast — but in
some cases, it's quite unavoidable.
One actor who knows this better than most is Murli Sharma, who's rather in demand — especially when it comes to cop-related roles.
This is especially true after the success of Singham, where he played the role of corrupt DSP Patkar.
He's also going to be essaying the role of a cop in three of his upcoming movies.
In Zindagi 50:50, he plays a lecherous inspector named Ramakant Rangoji Pawar, and he even has an intimate scene with Veena Malik in the a jeep.
In 'My Friend Ganesha — 2', he will be playing Inspector Banyora. And in the third film, Jeena Hai Toh Thok Dal, Murli Sharma will be seen at Inspector Hanumant Singh.
"They are all very different from each other each, with a different dialect, slang and backdrop. I had fun; I am not bothered about being typecast. A cop's role has become my identity and I love it," says Murli.
