The management and senior students of ASC Degree College, Gowri Shankara Kalyana Mantapa, West of Chord Road conducted 'Freshers' Day' for the first-year students of B Com, BBM and BCA and the PUC streams recently.
K V Acharya, syndicate member, Bangalore University was the chief guest for the function. Ananth Murthy, chairman; Santhosh Shetty, vice- chairman; S Shridar, secretary; L Manjunath, vice-secretary; Sangeetha Murthy, treasurer; Mallesh, principal of ASC Degree College, Hari Sarvotham Reddy, principal of ASC Independent PU College, were present on the occasion. The college prayer was sung by the college choir and the lamp was lit by the dignitaries. Sachin Bhradwaj of final BCom read out a brief introduction of the college. The final B Com students presented a slide show, 'A Journey of ASC' on the achievements of the college in the past three years. K V Acharya said that any work done should have a goal and a purpose to serve the humanity.
Asha Kirana, a small charity scheme to aid economically weaker children, was inaugurated. This was initiated by Mallesh. He motivated the students by showing a slide show of Sudarshan and Narayan Krishnan, who have given up their careers abroad and devoted their lives for the upliftment of the tribals and poor people of India. Inspired by his profound words, the management, staff and students donated generously.
The formal function was followed by a cultural feast that included songs, dances, classical music, instrumental music, folk songs, etc. Several games were conducted for the freshers. The first-year students presented an uninhibited performance on stage exhibiting their skills and talents. 'Mr ASC' and 'Miss ASC' were selected on the basis of their active involvement in the day's programme.
