The students of Commits Institute of Journalism and Mass Communication mixed academics with fun as they paid tributes to superstar Rajesh Khanna in their own style, during a production workshop.
The first-year communication students of the college went retro for the show, as they flaunted their puffed hair-dos and polka dots on stage. The music strictly stuck to the hits of Rajesh Khanna and songs like Roop Tera Mastana echoed through the auditorium.
Bilal, Ananya and team danced to one of the hit numbers of the superstar, Jai Jai Shiv Shankar, as the others cheered them on.
"It is a break from the regular routine and since we haven't begun the course on a full-fledged basis yet, we can have a bit of cultural activity. Our seniors say that it will be tough once we are midway into the academic year," said Sonakshee, a first-year student.
Along with this, the second-year students also showcased their short films, which were made by them with the assistance of a professional film-maker. "The students were divided into groups and had to make short films on various subjects. They were supervised by a professional, who helped them with various aspects of film-making like directing, editing and shooting the film. This was meant for the audio-visual course students and was a good practice for them," said Ramesh Prabhu, a professor of the college.
Four short films, made by the students, were presented. The second-year students said that this gave them a platform to get first-hand knowledge of various aspects of film-making and the nitty-gritty of shooting.
"We are learning a lot from these activities. Our interaction with the seniors has increased and these cultural activities help in better exchange of thoughts and ideas among us," said Sneha, a first-year student.
In all, the communication students had a ball, shaking a leg to some popular Hindi numbers and at the same time, learning the nuances of film-making. The students are now looking forward to various other academic as well as extracurricular activities.
