Harmonium recital

'Listening to...'
Bombay Jayashri will present a concert, 'Listening to Life - the Journey of a Raga', on August 2 at Brigade MLR Convention Centre in J P Nagar and on August 3 at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. The concert will feature popular music from several genres and will start at 8 pm on both days.
M S Sathyu has designed the sets and lighting for the programme. M D Pallavi will be singing a few Kannada songs aptly woven into the theme. Odissi festival
Nrityantar is holding an odissi dance festival, Naman 2012, on August 5, 5.30 pm at Seva Sadan, Malleswaram. The festival is an attempt to bring together and showcase varied styles and schools of odissi dance. Senior gurus like Bhanumathi, Usha Venkateswaran, Lalitha Srinivasan, Veena Murthy Vijay and Minal Prabhu will be present on the occasion.
Bijayini Satpathy, from Nrityagram, will enchant the audience with her performance. The event will also feature Sonali Mohapatra, a hearing-impaired artiste from Bhubaneshwar.
Pabira Kumar Pradhan from Bhubaneshwar will present a duet rendition with Sridutta Bhol.
French treat
Alliance Francaise is holding an 'Indo-French Theatre Festival', in collaboration with Bangalore Little Theatre, in the City.
The festival is the outcome of a three-month project in which a director's training programme was combined with a festival of Indian adaptations of French plays.
On July 21, 'Home Bound' (3 pm) and 'Woman in Red' (7 pm) will be staged.
On July 22, Rajdhani (3 pm and 7 pm) and on July 23 and July 24, 'A Miner Scam' (7 pm on both days) will be

Puppet theatre
As part of the 'German Puppet Theatre', the Indian premiere of 'Duck, Death and Tulip' by Martina Couturier will be held at Ranga Shankara as part of the 'AHA! International Theatre for Children Fest'. On July 22, it will be staged at 3.30 pm and 7.30 pm.

'Gundayana'
Gundayana, a play, will be staged on July 20, 7.30 pm at Ranga Shankara. The play, based on a novel by Kannada humourist, Na Kasturi, is designed and directed by Joseph. While Na Kasturi's language, full of pun and wit, tickles your funny bones, the absurd caricatures he creates keep you engaged throughout the play. The ten characters in the play are played by Sundar and Laxmi Chandrashekar. 'Sands of...'
An exhibition of solo paintings called 'Sands of Time' by Karttika Goel will be held at Chitrakala Parishat till July 22. Soon after completing her professional training, Karttika immersed himself in creating varied works of art — primarily oil on canvas — and showcasing them through various exhibitions and shows.
Group show
The Sublime Galleria is presenting an art show, 'Reprieve', at the UB City. It is a group exhibition featuring select artists from across India. The works of art displayed will range from paintings to photographs encompassing varied styles and strokes. The theme of the exhibition is nature and is an effort to take one back in time and to view nature through this pristine lens.
The line-up of artists includes Alok Utsav, Ananda Das, Dnyati Wagh, Pallon Daruwalla, Sripad Kulkarni, Sudeep Mukherjee, Suman Purushotam, Vijith Pillai, Basava Prabhu, Rachana Sehgal, Ashish Parmar and B P Kartik. The exhibition will be on till July 31.
'A Retrospective'
NGMA is organising an exhibition 'Ramkinkar Baij - A Retrospective', curated by K S Radhakrishnan. Ramkinkar Baij was one among the seminal artists of modern India. He was not only an iconic sculptor but also a painter and graphic artist. The exhibition, which is first-of-its-kind in Bangalore, has more than 350 works from various important collections. The exhibition is on view at NGMA, Palace Road till August 14. The gallery is open from 10 am to 5 pm on all days except on Mondays.
'Wishes'
An exhibition called 'Wishes' by Samir Mondal will be on display at Gallery Sumukha, near BTS Bus Depot, Wilson Garden, till August 4, 10.30 am to 6 pm. The current series of works from Samir Mondal are created to mark the occasion of the artist completing 60 years. Flowers stand as a symbol of an occasion of joy and happiness and the artist uses this concept in his current floral series paintings.
'Country Chimes'
Magnitude Gallery is displaying 'The Country Chimes', a series of original paintings, which is a blend of music with rustic charm till July 31. These original masterpieces are based on folk music and cover acrylic and mixed-media mediums.

Ratnan Parpancha, an acclaimed comedy based on the life and works of the famous Kannada writer G P Rajaratnam, will be staged at Ranga Shankara on July 18 and 19 at 7.30 pm.
The show includes interesting anecdotes from the life and works of the author, some of his most popular songs and the hilarious short comedy Kambliseve.
Scripted by Laxmi Chandrashekar and Sundar, who also play the lead, the play is directed by Joseph. Others in the cast are Ramakrishna Kannarpadi, Gajanana T Naik, Chandrakeerthi, Pannaga, Pancham Halebandi and Pooja.
