The future fashion designers of JD Institute of Fashion Technology showcased their collections at the annual design awards, held recently in the City. The final-year design students presented their clothes, based on the theme 'Inside Magic'.

"Each one of us took a different inspiration and mine was based on comic superheroes. My clothes were also inspired by comic superheroes. I have used a lot of denims in various colours and it is a complete men's wear collection," said Smita, a design student.

She added that she had experimented with a lot of colours. "The models can be seen wearing colourful jackets and shirts. It is a common belief that men do not experiment with colour and hence I wanted to do something different," she explained.

Along with showcasing their designs some students also aspired to sell their clothes. "I would want to sell the clothes that I am showcasing today. They will be ready to wear and will be a part of a high-end brand. I am showcasing a complete women's wear collection , which is based on various abstract elements like love, calmness, strength and so on. They are all hour-glass silhouettes and I have used subdued hues to portray each element," said Surabhi, another student.

The show highlighted some of the best designs of the students and their creativity with the clothes. The students were happy to get a platform to showcase their designs. "We were preparing for the show for almost three months and hope that the clothes get noticed. A lot of people from the industry are present at the programme and we have worked very hard for the show," said Smita.

The showcased an assortment of colours, textures, designs and styles. To add a professional touch to the show, they had made sure that the clothes were showcased by professional models. They also handled all the nitty-gritties of the show.

Sweta Utmani, a final-year student, played with natural drapes like malmal silk. "This variety of silk is very soft and flexible, but I have made it appear a little stiff. I am showcasing evening gowns in pleasant colours like sea green," she said. Along with being excited about the show, the students hoped to get a good response from the bigwigs of the industry.
