The Upadhyay family from Udupi created quite a flutter among the art lovers in the City as they presented a show of acrobatics, gymnastics, bharatanatyam, contemporary and kathak moves at a cultural evening show at Yavanika Hall recently.

The group presenting a peacock danceThe dancers belonged to a single household and have performed at various places across the country.

"The choreography has been done by all of us. We have performed in various cities like Mumbai and Chennai and in places like Tirupathi, Mantralaya, etc. We are all cousins in the age group of ten to 18 and all of us dance together. Our parents have given us immense support and have encouraged us to hone our skills," said Medhini, one of the dancers.

The show opened with a Ganesh Vandana Ekdantaye where the dancers showcased a blend of bharatanatyam with a contemporary twist, as well as their gymnastic skills.
The group danced to folk, classical and some popular Bollywood numbers, as well as some western chart busters like 'Crazy Frog'.

They performed eight pieces, which were unique in their own manner.
Next in store was a classical number, in which the group showed their command over their body.

They danced with diyas, candles as well as pots. "These kids are very talented. Seldom have I seen such a display of talent. Right from their coordination to their costumes and hold over the dance, everything is picture perfect. I am so glad I came for the show," said Ganghadhar, a septuagenarian in the audience.

The group also presented a peacock dance, in which they blended gymnastics along with bharatanatyam and kathak.

The colour coordination of the costumes added to the spectacular performance, and the agility of the dancers, coupled with their gracefulness, was a sight to behold.
In one part, they arched in front and performed a couple of on-stage stunts that received loud applause.

"We don't practice much as we have our studies to handle. But we perform quite a lot and that's what helps us in attaining perfection.

Our parents want us to manage our studies as well as dance. Some of us are also engineering students and if we look at it that way, we multi-task a lot," added
Medhini.

The youngest in the group, Harshini, stole the show with her performance. She had blended acrobatics and gymnastics.

Her act with the hoopla, combined with the front and back-flips, was spectacular. She also performed head-stands which made her a favourite with the audience
