Scholarships for studying abroad

Thomas Cook (India) Ltd. has launched the U-Special Wings Scholarship 2013 for students travelling abroad for higher education. The Wings Scholarship entails sponsorship of a one way air-ticket to students going to US, UK, Australia, or Canada for 2 deserving candidates. As a part of the scholarship application, students have to send a 100 word note to students@thomascook.in elucidating clearly - 'Studying abroad is an ambition but I am also looking forward to travelling abroad for…' The mail should end with the participant's name, DOB, email, postal address, and contact number. Advertising and mobile application courses

iNurture and VELS University have introduced 3 full-time on campus PG courses in Advertising & Creative Management, IT Infrastructure Management Services, and Mobile Applications Development from the academic year 2013-14 onwards. These courses are designed in partnership with the industry experts to fulfill industry requirements for effective employability right after the completion of the courses. These courses have been tailored, both academically and vocationally, to cater to the talent needs of these fast-growing segments. There is an immense scope and industry demand for courses in Mobile Application Development, Advertising & Creative Management and IT Infrastructure Management Services. It's a promising sign up which will help nurture potential candidates pool into the current industry because not all full-term post-graduate business administration courses are offered with university certification. VELS University (Tamil Nadu) is the 8th university partner sign-up for iNurture, after Gujarat University (Gujarat), Ganpat University (Gujarat), Jaipur National University (Rajasthan), Bharathidasan University (Tamil Nadu), Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) (Karnataka), Pacific University (Rajasthan), and Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University (Hyderabad).

Winners of architecture design contest

Saint-Gobain Glass India's 'Transparence 2012', the annual design competition held for students of Architecture and Design held recently brought together the best and most promising architectural minds in the country. And the finale too, was just as closely contested as it always has been! It was a day of high expectations and excitement, 8 colleges showcased their creativity and design acumen to compete for the most coveted title in the student of architecture community. The students presented their design amidst eminent architects and thousands of enthusiastic students. After a truly nail-biting finish, the winners of the Grand Finale were announced.

The winners of Transparence 2012 were :

Grand Finale winning team: Hetu Jariwala and Rushika Khanna from D C Patel school of architecture, Vallabh, Vidhyanagar.

First runner up : Shekoba B Sanap, Mihir Bhavsar and Kruti D Shah of Academy of architecture, Mumbai.
Second runner up : Mahindra Mohan P, Adhiyaman college of engineering, Hosur

International Teaching Fellowship in India

The Apeejay Stya University (ASU) is open to applications for a two-year international teaching fellowship in India. This fellowship program provides an opportunity to gain experience in teaching, in a global and creative environment. It will also introduce the candidate to an extremely innovative university system.

The fellows worldwide would also be provided discretion on pedagogy, evaluation, and adapting the syllabus according to their own teaching style. They would also be able to access the student body for research assistants along with a full support on any external grant applications. The subjects which are shortlisted for teaching during the fellowship program are, Education, History, Psychology, Economics, Public Administration/Public Policy, Comparative Philosophy and Religion, English & Linguistics, Sociology, Mathematics, Engineering, Design - Industrial & Product Design, Bio Sciences, Pharmaceutical Science, Management, Mass Communication/Journalism and interdisciplinary areas involving the above mentioned subjects. The applicants for the fellowship program should hold at least a Master's degree in their fields.

Preference will be given to PhD holders and those with prior teaching experience. Selected candidates shall be provided with on-campus or near campus accommodation, along with meals at the campus dining area. A teaching stipend would also be provided which would be approximate to $1,000-$15,00 USD per month. Email: togetinvolved@apeejay.edu

Education UK exhibition

Education UK exhibition organised by British Council offers students and parents the latest news and information about studying in the UK. Representatives of UK institutions provide information on how to apply for a student visa and attend seminars on various topics that will help you understand all aspects of studying and living in the UK.

Participants in the exhibition will have direct access to information about studying for an undergraduate, postgraduate or research degree and know more about student life and culture in the UK. They can attend seminars delivered by UK academicians on various topics such as studying for undergraduate, postgraduate course or an engineering or business degree. Seminars on student visas will be delivered by visa officers from UK Border Agency. At the exhibition particpants can get counselled by representatives from UK institutions and find out what scholarships are being offered by UK Institutions. All in all this is a one-stop-shop where all your queries about studying and living in the UK will be answered.

Kannada classes

Kannada Prasaara Parishat will start its next batch of spoken Kannada classes and Kannada script reading and writing classes in separate batches from February 3. The classes are held only on Sundays from 10 am to 1 pm at Hosmat hospital premises, Magrath Road (near Garuda Mall). Successful candidates will be awarded certificates of merit. German Teachers Conference

Goethe-Institut and Max Mueller Bhavan have announced the 4th German Teachers Conference 2013 on February 9 and 10, from 9 AM to 5 PM. About 150 teachers of the German language from schools and universities across Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu are expected to participate.

This annual event is a meeting point and platform for teachers to scale-up learner-centered activities in the language classroom. It offers workshops in phonetics, short films, interactive grammar, and creative methods that can be used to present texts and short films.

All sessions are aimed at achieving real communication between learners, integratng the same in corporate houses as well. All sessions will be in German. Participants must register themselves.
