Deepika Naidu narrates her experience as a student of Exeter University
What was different about Exeter when making your decision between Universities and programmes of study?
Making choices about the future is always very intimidating especially when there are so many options to choose from. The University of Exeter stands out as it has been named "University of the year 2012/13". It is ranked 7th in the UK by The Sunday Times and is in the top 1 percent of universities in the world. I had just finished my under graduation in industrial engineering and was looking forward to pursuing my Masters in the same field.
The University offers a wide range of courses that suited my exact requirements. They have incorporated the right amount of coursework and interactive learning apart from bookish knowledge that makes students develop their skills very dynamically.
Tell us more about you course
I have just completed my first term at the university and can confidently say that my course, a Master's in Engineering and Management with a specialist pathway in Supply Chain Logistics is testing and preparing me for the competitive future ahead.
The scholarly staff tailors the contents of each module being taught and is always ready to help students cope with difficulties. They make an extra effort to help students living away from home to adjust to the new environment.
What kinds of student facilities, clubs and societies are available to International students at the University?:
The accommodation facilities are very secure and cater to individual needs and budgets. There are various societies and clubs that not only help you use your time well and but also develop skills that you didn't know you had. The University of Exeter provides excellent sporting facilities and is one of the leading sporting institutions in the UK. I have attended workshops and lectures that are offered by the Career Zone at the University which is open to all students and helps us gain an insight, make contacts, and explore the future. There are several mentors on campus who can help you gain employability skills, internships, and get started with research careers.
There are over 100 PhD studentships available which gives students the opportunity to work with leading specialists in the world-class research infrastructure that is provided.
Describe your experience at Exeter University
The city of Exeter is beautiful and inviting, making the studying experience out here worth it. It has my fellow students and me believing that it is a home away from home. The whole process of applying and taking decisions was made much easier by getting in touch with the local office in Bangalore. They provided easy access to all the relevant information.
