A variety of events were held at CBBhandari Jain College for Women. The students of C B Bhandari Jain College for Women recently celebrated their annual day at the college auditorium. fter the welcome address by college officials and the lighting of the lamp, the main programme kicked off with great energy and cheer.

The evening began with a cultural show based on the theme of festivals in India, like Ganesh Chaturthi, Sankranthi, Holi, Shivratri, Baisakhi, Navratri and many others. Songs and dances were presented, each explaining the importance of a particular festival.

"This time, our college's annual day was like a breath of fresh air. The theme was such that a series of song-and-dance sequences could be created around it, and it was very enjoyable to watch. What I loved about the whole show were the eye-catching costumes," says Neha, a student of the college.

Following this was the colourful fashion show, which showcased various ways in which one can bring a western touch into Indian attire.

Popular Kannada film actress Meghana Gaonkar was the guest of honour and was seen enjoying herself; she even walked the ramp with the students.

"The saris that the students wore in the fashion show were both decent and extremely trendy. Each of the students was fit to be a beauty queen!" shares a smiling Ashritha, the cultural president of the college. The entire mood changed after this with a classical music and dance performance by a group of students.

"The invocation, in raga bhimpalasi, was very soothing. When the performance began, we immediately sat up and took notice of the wonderful music troupe, especially in the superbly-choreographed tillana," notes Anjana Lodha, a parent.

Finally, the stage was set for the tribute to the Bollywood film industry, which recently completed a century of success. The students were split into ten different groups, each showcasing a decade of this history. Vibrant dances were performed to songs like Laila O Laila, Mera Juta Hai Japani, Babuji Dheere Chalnd and Shayad Meri Shaadi Ka Khayal among others.

There was also a prize distribution ceremony for students who have excelled in academics, sports and attendance at pre-university and degree levels.
