The cast and crew of Preetham Gubbi's Nam Duniya, Nam Style literally froze during their recent shoot in the heart of Kashmir, under the abnormally cold temperature.
Booted and clad in layers of warm clothing, the crew fought the biting cold and shot two song sequences. Now back home, the cast say they thoroughly enjoyed the shoot and the cold weather only added to the thrill.
Sharing the first pictures and experiences of the Kashmir shoot schedule, director Preetham Gubbi feels that it is the commitment, discipline and determination of the cast and crew that saw them through such a tough shooting schedule. The story of Nam Duniya... is about love and friendship. It traces the story of three childhood friends. All the three boys have their own style and they focus on their different lifestyles.
The shooting in Kashmir, happened by sheer luck. "We didn't look out for locations or even visit the spot, prior to heading out there. I was in touch with a localite who would keep us updated about the weather and when we asked him about the place, he would just say, 'Kashmir is beautiful' and we got to see that for ourselves when we spent five full days there," says Preetham.
The two songs, written by Jayanth Kaikini — Nalla Nalla Neene Elle and Kanasige Bergade — were to be shot in Kashmir and Preetham and his crew headed to Gulmarg first.
"The songs are beautiful and required very romantic landscapes. There was no better place to shoot than in Kashmir," recollects Preetham. Preetham says that a lot of people had told him that it's the wrong time to go to Kashmir.
"When we landed it was raining, snowing and it was dark at 2 pm. We thought we would have to pack up and head back but thankfully the sun shone on the third day and we were able to complete the shoot," he notes.
"We were dressed in thermals and boots but the actors had to wear saris and kurtas. They shivered but despite all the discomfort, they gave it their best shot," he shares.
The cast comprise Krishna, also known as Sunil; TV anchor Likith Shetty; and former RJ and actor Vinayak Joshi.
The girls are Kavya M Shetty, a model, and Milana Nagaraj, an actress and a
national-level swimming champion. While Milana agrees that the weather was unbearable, she says she was inspired by the location.
"It was beautiful and you just forget about the cold. There were times when we would eagerly wait for the sun to appear," she says.
"The costumes wouldn't keep me warm and it was tough. But after the shoot, I think we couldn't have asked for a better place," she adds. Likith Shetty recalls that the toughest part was to dance in Kolhapuri chappals.
"It was freezing but the challenge was to shoot in the cold in as many locations as we could. What I got to see was Kashmir in its most raw form," he sums up.
