Ask her how it felt to be married to a leading actor in the industry and she says, "Destiny is fixed. It's the almighty who decides what comes in your path. We can't imagine or forecast what will happen in our lives, it just happens automatically."
All the roles Bharathi did are dear to her, and she recollects a few of her favourite roles from her past films.
"I loved my role in Krishna Devaraya, a historical movie; and enjoyed my characters Sathyabhama and Bhagyajyothi. I've always loved each role that I've done, and I have done each of them with utmost sincerity," she says.
"I think I was very lucky to have acted with almost all the top stars of the industry back then. I learnt everything about the industry from them. I didn't know anything about acting till then, and it was a great learning experience," reflects Bharathi.
Having acted in films across five languages - Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi - Bharathi was comfortable with all the film industries.
"I've never had issues acting in any of those industries. I was like a switch. I would change modes every time I went to another industry — with Telugu, I would be different, with Malayalam, it was yet another mode and so on. I took every role in its own stride."
Commenting on today's cinema, Bharathi feels that it is going back to what it was in her days.
"Change is inevitable. Just like seasons change, so does everything, including cinema," she says.
Having married someone from the industry, ask Bharathi what she
thinks about romance in the filmdom and outside, and she replies in a firm tone, "People need to have feelings and think before jumping into a relationship. Nobody understands love nowadays. Love is a sacrifice, and to gain something, one has to forego other things."
When Bharathi is not busy shooting for the tele-serial Bhagyavantharu, she keeps herself busy with her hobbies like collecting coins and stamps or drawing Tanjore paintings.
"I like to be involved in work, and keep myself on my toes," says Bharathi.
To young actors and those aspiring to be identified in the industry, Bharathi says, "Anyone can do anything nowadays. There's so much exposure that if you have the will to do something, and are willing to work hard, then anything is attainable."
Bharathi doesn't believe in New Year resolutions. She opines, "There's no point in making decisions like that. I take each day as it comes, and I'm a staunch believer in god."
