'I am dying to see what Sajid has done'
Director Sajid Khan is all set to remake the Jeetendra-Sridevi starrer Himmatwala — but although one would have thought that the veteran actor's son, Tusshar Kapoor, would have been cast in his role, Ajay Devgan will be playing the character of Jeetendra in the film.
Tongues have been wagging to the contrary, but Tusshar says he is not in the least bothered by this.
"I don't think I would be able to do Himmatwala as he (Jeetendra) was in his 40's when he did the film. Ajay is best and he has got an action image also. I am happy that the right actor is doing it. I am happy that the film is being made by the right, successful director," claims Tusshar.
Asked whether he was a little jealous that Ajay would be stepping into his father's shoes, Tusshar adds, "We are not jealous, as I am not dying to do Himmatwala and Ekta is also not dying to produce it.
As long as it gets made well, gets a good release, and people are throwing coins in the theatre like they did for original, it is a victory. It was one of the greatest hits of his time, but there is a huge list." He's adamant that he and his sister, Ekta, were not keen on being the ones to remake the film. "We have not thought of it. Sajid has always told me he liked the film and he wanted to do it.
I am dying to see what he has done. If I had to act in any of my father's remakes then I would like to do films like 'Carvan' and Farz, as he was young and I am also young," he explains, adding, "Now, 'action time' is going on...but when the time for family dramas comes in, his (Jeetendra's) films like Maang Bharo Sajna and others can be made."
The leading lady for Sajid Khan's remake has not been announced yet, but the director says she will be a newcomer. This film will go on floors in August. Meanwhile, Tusshar is gearing up for his next release, Kya Super Kool Hain Hum, a sequel to the 2005-hit Kya Kool Hain Hum. Releasing on July 27, the film — directed by Sachin Yardi — features Tusshar, Riteish Deshmukh, Neha Sharma and Sarah Jane Dias.
Preity's gratitude for tolerant colleagues
Preity Zinta has definitely come a long way from the shy, pretty debutant in Dil Se. At the time, she played a naive Malayali girl opposite Shah Rukh's rather powerful character. And although she was starring along with two giants of the film industry — namely Shah Rukh Khan and Manisha Koirala — she managed to hold her own and make an impact on the project.
However, it's only now that Preity realises just how much of a newbie she had been on the sets of Dil Se, and how tolerant Shah Rukh Khan and Manisha Koirala had been of her inexperienced ways. Now that she's working with a new actor in her debut production — titled Ishkq in Paris (IIP) — she admits that she really appreciates the manner in which her co-stars behaved with her while they were shooting for Dil Se even more.
"Must confess that I appreciate Shah Rukh and Manisha being so amazing to me in Dil Se even more now as I am working with a new actor in IIP," tweeted Preity. The new actor is reportedly TV actor Gaurav Chanana, who has been rechristened Rhehaan.
Meanwhile, Preity is definitely excited about having French actress Isabelle Adjani in the cast of the film. "Come September, people across the world will be amazed by Isabelle Adjani in Ishkq In Paris! I am so amazed n excited by her performance(sic)," wrote Preity. The movie, also featuring Arjun Rampal, is being
directed by Prem Soni.
No more sequels for Riteish
He may be the quintessential comedian but Riteish Deshmukh, whose sequel to Masti will soon go on the floors, says he plans to stop doing sequels and try to be part of drama and crime thrillers instead. "My next film will be Masti 2.
I will start shooting in the first week of August," Riteish says. He will team up with the original cast of the film — Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani — in part two. "It is myself, Aftab and Vivek in the film. It's my fourth film with Indra Kumar; I feel like I am married to him," Riteish, 33, quips. Indra Kumar and Riteish's earlier projects include Masti
(2004), Dhamaal (2007) and Double Dhamaal (2011).
Besides comedies, Riteish has been associated with sequels and says he plans to move on. "This is my third sequel and then the fourth one will come; then, I will stop doing sequels because all the comedies that I am doing are sequels — Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum (a sequel to Kyaa Kool Hai Hum) and Masti 2. I have not done a new comedy."
The actor also featured in the recently released Housefull 2, but he claims that he is not been typecast after playing so many comic roles.
"In fact, in my case, it has been the other way round. Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya happened and it was a rom-com where Genelia (D'Souza) is the more aggressive character.
Thankfully, it worked. Obviously, these series of films that I am doing are sequels, they are brands and they are bound to be comedies. After these films, things have changed because people's perceptions have changed — so, now I am looking forward to doing one drama and one crime thriller," says the actor.
