Breaking all boundaries

In every college, freshers' day is one of the most-awaited events on campus. For the new batch of students in the institute, it's a chance to interact with their seniors, have a little fun and of course, get to know their peers better — and the senior students also grab this opportunity to acquaint the freshers to the college environment.

Following this logic, the students of Sambhram School of Management recently hosted a party, called 'Umang 2012' for their freshers, which had an entertaining line-up of song and dance routines.

The seniors worked together to ensure that the freshers had a great time on the occasion. After a brief inauguration ceremony, they took to the stage with a medley of events that kept the audience tapping their feet throughout the programme. While on group of students shook a leg to a medley of popular Hindi and Kannada film songs, another student, from Nepal, sang a few folk Nepali folk songs, allowing the freshers a glimpse of a different culture. Other students also came together to sing a combination of group and solo renditions.

To the students' delight, a fashion show was also organised. The senior students strutted on the ramp, showcasing some lovely ethnic creations that they had put together themselves. Hariprasad, one of the freshers, says, "I think the fashion show was the best part of the entire freshers' day. The seniors wore lovely traditional dresses in one part. After that, they also showcased some modern, funky clothes. It was awesome to watch."

Lunch was also organised for the students, after which there was an open-stage dance. The juniors and seniors all got onto the stage and jived to some popular, upbeat numbers. "We had a lot of fun. Even the director got on to the stage, and everyone had a great time dancing," recalls Hariprasad.

All in all, the students admit that it was a great way to break all barriers between the batches of the college. They spent a lot of time interacting with each other, the seniors taking the time to explain to the new students how to go about life on campus. "Personally, it was an awesome time for me. Our seniors are soo cooperative and friendly — there is no gap between us," sums up Hariprasad.
