Film buffs will soon experience the joy of watching some of the world's best movies at cinema halls across the City.
Close to 160 films from around 50 countries will be screened at seven places in the City as part of the fifth Bengaluru International Film Festival, which will be held from December 20 to 27. The inauguration will be held at Jnanajyothi Auditorium in the presence of Japanese film-maker Masahiro Kobayashi.
The films have been divided in 12 sections and three sets of jury members from across the country as well as world have selected these films.
The films of Antonioni, Akira Kurosawa, Henri Clouzot, Aki Kaurismaki, Michael Henneke etc will be screened.
"There are various sections under which these films have been divided. We have a special package of Danish films. Films like 'Melancholia', an Oscar award-winning film and many other will be shown. Amor, one of the big names in contemporary cinema, will also be screened and I urge everyone to see it," explains H N Narahari Rao, the artistic director of Biffes 2012. "The festival will also have a special package of NETPAC award-winning films, which are some of the best Asian films," he adds.
A discussion on 'The current trend in Asian cinema' will also be held. Members of NETPAC and other institutions will participate in it.
In the Indian film category, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Hindi and Tamil movies will be screened.
The registration for the films will be conducted at venues like the information department, Suchitra Film Society, Badami House and Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce.
The films will be screened at the Inox Garuda Mall, Fame Lido, information department and Priyadarshini in Badami House.
There will be free screenings for the public at the Freedom Park as well.
Apart from the film screenings, master classes will also be held for those who are interested in editing.
"We have got an acclaimed German editor who will conduct this workshop. There are about 30 to 40 seats and these will be alloted on first-come, first-serve basis. The registrations for the same have already begun and the dates will be announced soon. Students of film institutes, mass communication and colleges will get a concession.
