Surana College recently held its annual PU and Degree cultural festival called Yuvanova 2012.
There was a wide spectrum of activities across various streams including commerce, management, humanities, life science and computer science apart from cultural events. Students from over 87 colleges in the State participated in the fest with much enthusiasm.
The two-day fest was inaugurated by actress Sudha Rani. "Stay away from any kind of addiction. Being a part of academic, cultural and co-curricular activities will help one keep away from unnecessary temptations," she says.
This year, the theme for the fest was 'Comic'. Decorations were based on various cartoon characters and posters were put up all over the campus. The students brightened up the day by dressing up in colourful clothes.
There was an event for every student with over 20 academic and other cultural events. For PUstudents of commerce and management, there was 'Quixotic', a business quiz. There was also the search for the best manager.
At the same time, the degree students were occupied with events in finance, human resource and marketing. The science stream students were involved in events that were project-based.
Some of the popular events were gaming and web designing, which were open to both PU and Degree students. The humanities stream were not far behind. 'Thinking Cap' saw a good participation.
It required the participant to talk about a topic from four different points of view based on the colour of the cap placed on their head. If commerce stream was looking for the best manager, the humanities' stream held a competition for the best journalist in the crowd.
The five cultural events, that were held over the two days, saw some brilliant display of talent in events like Antakshari, Samskruta Geeta Gaanam and 'Mad Ads'.
There was also a group dance competition, which saw a whooping 26 teams participate. Finally, it was Indo-Asian College which bagged the first prize.
The fest eventually concluded with a fashion show. It had 10 teams from different colleges take the ramp. Jain College stood first in the fashion show and Dayananda Sagar Institutions came second.
