Always game for tough roles
Priyanka Chopra, who plays an autistic girl in Barfi, says she is always game for these kind of tough roles.
Ask her how she chooses such difficult roles, one after the other, and Priyanka says, "Whichever role is the toughest, bring it to me, I'll do it."
She has played challenging roles earlier in 7 Khoon Maaf, 'Fashion', and Kaminey. Her forthcoming Barfi! spreads the message of being happy in any state, just the way the lead character Barfi essayed by Ranbir Kapoor — does despite being both deaf and mute.
"We have brought Barfi! to spread happiness. The film's philosophy is 'Don't worry, be Barfi' instead of 'Don't worry, be happy'," says Priyanka.
"Ranbir's character's philosophy is this! When he enters our lives, he touches us all and teaches us that you don't need much to be happy, just a big heart," she adds. Barfi! also features Telugu actress Ileana D'Cruz. It is slated to release on September 14.
'We actors pray a lot'
Everyone knows how superstitious the actors and actresses of tinsel town can get when it comes to box office success and they have no qualms about admitting this.
Defending Bollywood's fondness for visiting shrines and temples ahead of film releases, Bipasha says religion and superstition are very much part of the industry.
Film-maker Madhur Bhandarkar, along with lead actor Kareena Kapoor, decided to launch the music of his forthcoming film 'Heroine' at Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai, causing a stampede-like situation.
Producer Ekta Kapoor also caused controversy when she visited Ajmer Sharif Dargah before the release of Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum. She was accused of using the shrine visit to promote the adult comedy by some religious heads.
"Religion and superstition are part of our country and they also exist in our business. We actors pray a lot. Before any release, everyone is going to dargahs, temples and it shows the vulnerable side of an actor. It is not that we are selfish people. We are there
to just ask for a hit. There is nothing wrong in doing so," Bipasha says.
The 33-year-old actress is excited about Raaz 3, in which portrays the role of a fading actress, who resorts to black magic to bring down an upcoming star's career. In a unique promotional strategy for the film, Bipasha was recently spotted handing out nimboo-mirchi (lemon and chilly) to auto wallahs in Mumbai. "It is fun.
It is not leading to anything which is wrong. Nimboo-mirchi is something we all do. It is just to ward off the evil. Every Saturday, I buy it and put it in my car. My mother has made it a tradition and asked me to do so too. Putting it on autorickshaws was a fun way to promote the film," she says. Raaz 3 directed by Vikram Bhat, also stars Emraan Hashmi and Esha Gupta.
Perfect cast for the film
Prakash Jha, who has managed to put together an ensemble cast for Satyagrah, says that he is lucky to have Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgan,
Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Manoj Bajpayee playing important roles in
his film, which focusses on corruption in the country.
"Today, it seems that the middle class all over the world is in anguish with the system and is gearing up to almost renegotiate democracy. This is where our history is going to be settled. It's such an important juncture in the world history," says Prakash.
"There is corruption of wealth and power and it seems that the course of history is going to be settled. I'm extremely fortunate to have a dream cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgan, Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal and Manoj Bajpayee playing the key roles," he adds. Scheduled to go on floors in January next year, Satyagrah will address the ethos of a peaceful mass protest against corruption.
Tussle for a title
With the film Bhoot, Ram Gopal Varma introduced a new-age horror genre to Indian cinema. After its success, the title Bhoot 2 was registered by producer Nitin Manmohan's company, because then Nitin Manmohan and RGV were together. After their parting, producer Nitin Manmohan a year back announced Bhoot 2 with Vikram Bhatt as the director.
When Vikram got to know that it was not done with RGV's consent, he backed out. As the title Bhoot 2was registered with Nitin Manmohan, the new producers of the sequel, Alumbra Entertainment and Eros International, repeatedly requested Nitin Manmohan to part with the title, citing the original creator was RGV. But due to his tussle with RGV, he refused and RGV decided to end this chase for the title and changed the title of his film from Bhoot 2 to Bhoot Returns.
The film stars Manisha Koirala and J D Chakravarthy and Eros International will release the film worldwide on October 12. Bhoot Returns is RGV's first 3D film. The film will also release in Tamil and Telugu.
Say hello to Deol Junior
There have been plenty of rumours regarding Sunny Deol's son, Karan, and his debut in tinsel town. Sunny Deol himself has previously said that Karan's debut will take place sometime next year, but it seems that the junior Deol can't wait for so long to get into the business.
In fact, he's decided to take his first step by himself and has begun to dabble in direction. And what better place to do that than on the sets of one of his father's films?
The shooting for Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 has begun in the United Kingdom, and Karan has been assisting on the sets of the film. Whether he's able to make his mark in tinsel town, though, is yet to be seen.
