It is common to find security checks being done in every nook and corner of the City. That includes malls, movie halls and star hotels. However, Bangaloreans feel they are not thorough enough.
These security checks, they say, are not carried out seriously.
Places like supermarkets, metro stations, movie halls, malls and even hotels and restaurants have metal detectors, scanning machines and even CCTV cameras to keep a strict vigil.
Many a time, people have walked through a beeping metal detector in hotels with nobody stopping them.
Krishnan, a student, says that he has faced a similar situation, where he walked through a metal detector which started beeping. And yet, nobody reacted and let him pass through.
"There have been many times when the detectors start to beep and I see the guards don't bother at all. Very rarely do they give a second look. It's almost like they are of no use and the mall must be paying so much money to keep them there," he adds.
Some of those, who visit movie halls, feel that the security checks there a big waste of time and inconvenient as well.
Prerna, a professional, says, "So many times when my bag is being checked at the movie halls, the women simply turn a blind eye. Imagine if a person was to carry a weapon with with an intention of using it, how will they stop him or her by just looking into the bag?" she asks.
But not everyone feels that way. Lavanya, a student says that while these measures are not of much help, they do make a bit of a difference.
"Many times, I have seen that the security does not bother but that's not always the case. I feel no matter what, they do put in a certain fear. After all, something is better than nothing at all," she says. Agrees Aakriti Srikanth, an engineering student.
"It will definitely be of some help. If not the big crimes, at least petty crimes like shop-lifting or recording movies in theatres can be curbed to a certain extent. And if you see, most of the big hotels have police dogs and armed men at the entrance which gives some sort of security to those who visit these places," she says.
