Websites and blogs which present people with neat do-it-yourself solutions are gaining popularity everyday.

They're a great way to do just about anything without burning a hole in the pocket.
A few years ago, these websites might have been just for a few artistic minds who enjoyed such activities and had time on their hands.

But today, the do-it-yourself attitude has become a subculture, with plenty of people opting for it.

These websites focus on all sorts of items — these could range from fashion, craft
and home décor to lifestyle accessories.

Websites like Pinterest and do-it-yourself (DIY) blogs like 'PS I Made This' are
the most popular among youngsters.

The step-by-step detailed instructions to make what you like with just about anything are the highlight of such blogs and websites.

Metrolife speaks to a few people in the City to find out about their experiences with these websites and blogs.

"There are so many different and cool things that DIY websites offer. I saw a beautiful table lamp that used serial lights in a glass bottle at an antique store, but it was unaffordable.

I came across the same lamp at Pinterest with instructions
to make it from scratch and it took me just a day to make it," says Apoorva S, a student.Pruthvi B, a college student, surfs such DIY websites and blogs quite often.

"My friends and I saw this range of hair bands in one of the stores on Commercial Street while shopping. I went back home and checked if there was anything similar online.

To my surprise, I not only found many varieties but also found detailed instructions to make them," she explains, adding, "It took me a couple of days to make a few and surprise my friends."

It's not always about making something but also appreciating others creativity. Some people visit these websites and say it's something like window shopping.

"I don't have the time to make things myself but I enjoy visiting such websites and looking at all the wonderful, creative things that one can make," says Preetu G, a homemaker.

Sheena Deviah, a working professional who recently painted her own speakers and made her own light fixtures, sums up, "Everyone wants to stand out in one
way or the other.

When you purchase something from a store, there are high chances that others have
the same thing. With do-it-yourself websites and blogs, you are making something of your own using your own hands and creating a unique style that represents you."
