Workshop on e-content development
To train University and college faculty in e-content development, Jain University, Bangalore and Public Relations Council of India (PRCI) - Academic Cell, along with Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMMRC), University of Mysore are organising a two-day workshop at School of Graduate Studies, Jain University, JC Road, Bangalore on August 31 and September 1, 2012.
Early bird registration fee is Rs 500 until August 20, 2012. Sustainable Energy Challenge
In celebration of the United Nations — Year of "Sustainable Energy for All", SELCO is organising the Sustainable Energy Challenge (SEC) for all college students across Bangalore. Students will work in teams to come up with concepts on products/services/solutions that impact the lives of the urban or rural poor and fall under the larger umbrella of Renewable Energy and Sustainability. The intervention should be socially relevant while creating a positive environmental impact and could be related to any issue including water, food, health, sanitation, education, livelihood and so on.
Students are encouraged to work in interdisciplinary teams from business, engineering, design and social science backgrounds, to enhance the value of the final output. Prior to the actual competition, interactive workshops will be held to provide an overview of sustainability, energy, the concept of social enterprises and inter-linkages between products, services and systems.
Workshops are open to all students and are being held at the Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering, Bangalore on August 11, 2012. (10.30am - 1pm)
SEC is offering cash prizes worth Rs. 60000 to the winning team(s), in addition to the opportunity to implement their project through the SELCO Foundation.
The deadline for registration and draft proposals is September 8.

Introductory course in Cosmology
M P Birla Institute of Fundamental Research, Bangalore will be conducting an introductory course in Cosmology from September 2 to November 4, 2012. This course is open to all. Classes will begin on September 2, 2012 at 10:00 am and thereafter will be held every Sunday from 10 am to 12:15 pm. The course will be coordinated by the cosmologist, Prof C Sivaram.
