It was a glittering day as haute couture and jewellery came together on the same platform.
The occasion was the launch of Forevermark's exquisite range of diamond jewellery by Abaran store in collaboration with veteran fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani. Models showcased Tahiliani's clothes and the store's jewellery impressing those present at the event.
This jewellery range has modernity combined with traditional pieces from North and South India. It was interesting to see a person with a sense of design like Tahiliani changing the whole look by mixing and matching the jewellery. Tahiliani designed the attire for two models — Jackie Shetty and Nitya Duella.
Almost as if quick make-overs were taking place, the duo were made to try on three different sets of jewellery handpicked by him. He then went on to explain the various looks that the individual sets had created. While Nitya wore a modern day anarkali studded with coloured equivalents of diamonds, Jackie walked around in a classical North Indian lehenga with zardosi and stone work.
"These days people want traditional jewellery for weddings and diamond jewellery for receptions. This range gives a twist with modernity," says Tahiliani.
"Just as different colours suit different people, different jewellery suits different people. The same outfit can be dressed up or down with one's jewellery and that's how people individualise things.
Besides, it's good to try on what jewellery works with the clothes, it makes a huge difference on how the jewels sit," he adds. He also mentioned that a new fashion revolution is set to take place, where things will stop being elitist and percolate down to the masses.
Model Nitya Duella seemed quite comfortable in her visibly heavy attire and walked around gracefully showing the audience her necklace comprising ruby beads and hundreds of tiny, sparkling diamonds.
"What I liked best about Tarun's work is the fact that the colours don't necessarily have to match. What I'm wearing right now is not my style usually but the work is beautiful. It's like a piece of art. It makes you feel like a princess," smiles the young model.
