Bishop Cotton Women's Christian Law College started yet another academic year for its degree students recently.
The freshers were all geared up for a challenging year ahead.
Students, bursting with enthusiasm, embraced the first year of their degree course cheerfully and were on their best behaviour, especially since it was the first day of
college.
Newcomers said they were so nervous that they had butterflies in their stomach when they arrived at the lush green campus. However, they added that the playful environment of the college made them feel at ease.
They were all praises for the greenery on campus, fellow students, seniors and teachers who made them feel comfortable on their very first day. Metrolife spoke to a few to find out about their first-day jitters and excitement.
Sunitha Sinwar, a first-year student who wants to work for a law firm in the future, says she is very thrilled to be a part of the college.
"I'm very eager to make new friends and meet fresh faces. It's my first day in college and the atmosphere encourages me to take that extra step to achieve my goals," she explains.
Students not only flocked to the campus from in and around the City, but also made it from across the country. Apart from the homely atmosphere and friendly faces, they said they were in love with the City's mild climate.
Christabel D'avrivu, who aspires to specialise in intellectual property law, is preparing herself for a strict routine. She confesses, "There are a lot of disputes when it comes to intellectual property rights.
Licences of businesses and patenting for channels are some of the issues which
need constant monitoring and that's something I'm interested in."
Many students were very clear about their aspirations and state that they want to have fun along with some serious studies. Some students are very clear with what they want to become a few years down the line, while others wanted to just go with the flow.
"I want to specialise in international law because it gives me a chance to go abroad and study foreign laws. I think it's essential to know the laws of every country.
Besides, I can make a lot of money if I study international law," Rizwana Anjir coyly admits, adding, "this profession will give me status as well as an opportunity to serve the society."
Debarati Chakraborty, on the other hand, wants to keep her options open and decide her specialisation while she learns.
She expressed her joy for having chosen a profession that is out of the ordinary and thrilling. They also love the fact that they have to wear uniforms to college — it makes them feel special.
Padmashree V, another fresher, exclaims, "Black and white is what defines lawyers and I'm very proud to wear it."
