Singapore will play host, for the first time, to the world's largest festival and live awards competition dedicated to celebrating architectural excellence from across the globe.
The fifth World Architecture Festival (WAF), to be held there from October 3 to 5, has attracted over 8,000 attendees to date.
This is a landmark year for the WAF, heralding the festival's move to Singapore - the Asian gateway and design hub - from Barcelona, Spain, where the four earlier annual events were held successfully. The festival venue is the spectacular Marina Bay Sands resort, designed by the renowned architect Moshe Safdie and itself a WAF Award winner.
According to Finch, WAF is unique because all award entries will be exhibited, and the awards are open to all architects across the world. Featuring an eclectic mix of architectural styles - from British colonial civic buildings to art deco office blocks - Singapore has a rich architectural heritage. Singapore has demonstrated a strong belief in the power of design to transform people and places for the better and as a country with a real interest in design quality in many fields.
