A musical tribute was paid to some of the legends of Bollywood by a group called '7 Sur' at the State Youth Centre, Yavanika Hall recently.
The audience relived the fifties as the singers sang one hit number after another.
"We saw a full house after a long time and the best part was that the audience sat through the entire show. We tried and emoted some songs like Acha ji mein hari chalo maan jao na and really enjoyed performing them," said Ekta Shah, one of the singers.
It was a tribute to some of the most popular stars and music directors of the Hindi film industry like Shammi Kapoor, Dev Anand and music director Ravi Shankar.
Dil ke arman aansuon me beh gaye, one of the most popular songs composed by music director Ravi Shankar, was also performed on the occasion. Another of the popular numbers that were sung were, Lakhon hain nigahon mein, which was filmed on Joy Mukherjee.
"We introduced two new singers this time — Keerthana and Shyam, who performed O mere sona re, which was an instant hit with the audience. We also performed a song by Mukesh. We chose this song as it was the only one sung by Mukesh for Dev Anand," added Ekta. Mugdha Dixit, another singer of the group, sang popular numbers like Jab chali thandi hawa and Woh hain zara khafa khafa.
"I enjoyed the show as it is rarely that old numbers are performed in the City. Some of my favourite numbers like O mere sona re were sung this evening and it was like going back to my childhood. There are so many memories that are attached to Dev Anand and Shammi Kapoor," said Rakesh Pathak, who had come to watch the show.
Songs from blockbusters like 'Jewel Thief', Heera Panna and 'Darling Darling' made the audience shakea leg along with the singers.
"Songs like Panna ki Tamanna and Dil Pukare Aa Re were enjoyed by the audience thoroughly. Lakhon hai nigahon mein, Gero pe karam and Sau bar janam lenge, which were slow numbers, were equally
appreciated," informed Ekta.
