It was a day of excitement at PES Evening College, where freshers' day was celebrated in a grand manner. The first-year students were thrilled to finally celebrate this occasion and so were the seniors.
The programme started in the evening and was presided over by the evening college principal B S Sudharshan, while the day college principal A V Chandrashekar was the chief guest.
The students could not wait for the inaugural ceremony to get over. After this, the second-year students started the entertainment programme. A dance performed by Kiran, Sai and Raghavendra entertained the audience while another group performed a small skit. "We have put in a lot of effort for this programme. The practice sessions went on for days together and we had a lot of fun conducting them as well. Now that it's over, we will wait till we become seniors and throw a party for our freshers," said Kiran, a first-year student.
Kavitha, another first-year student, said that she hoped that the other freshers at the evening college enjoyed the programme. "We were delighted to see so much talent among our batch and admired the programme.
It was very informative and wonderful and I never expected the seniors to be so cooperative," she added. Ramesh, who is pursuing his CA, said that his favourite part of the show was when the meritorious students of the previous year were honoured.
Along with the cultural programme a 'pick and speak programme' was also organised. All the juniors had to pick a piece of paper and speak about or act out whatever it said.
"The freshers were motivated by the seniors to improve their academic skills through this game.
They were also guided by the seniors on how to go about things in college," said Sai, a second-year student. Sujatha, a first-year student, added, "All these days, I had stage fear and never got an opportunity to address a gathering. Today, because of this freshers' day, I got an opportunity and I am confident of overcoming my stage fear, thanks to the seniors."
It was clear that the juniors had a lot of fun and after a fun-filled cultural programme, the students were set to start their stint at college.
