The first-year postgraduate students of Commits Institute of Journalism and Mass Communication are all set for a new academic year. A week-long inaugural session was organised by the college to welcome the communication students, who come from various parts of the country.
The students could be seen clarifying their doubts and paying attention to the inaugural lectures being given by various dignitaries, as well as the professors of the college. "We are all very happy to be here and hope to have a good time. Many of my school seniors have been former students of Commits and that is how I got to know about the college. I studied in Mount Carmel College and have had interactions with my seniors earlier as well," said Leanne, a first-year postgraduate student.
Students made the most of their first week in college, chatting and making an effort to get to know about the college from their peers and seniors. "It has only been a couple of days since we started college. Though we have had only limited interaction with our seniors and our batch mates, we are trying to utilise this time as we have been told by our seniors that this is the only free time that we will get," added Leanne.
Many expressed their desire to be successful media professionals. "I have heard a lot about the college and its placements, as well as internships — that is what brought me here. I am looking forward to a good academic year," said Sonakshi, another first-year student.
The students also added that it would be difficult having fun in college, considering the strict rules and regulations. "I don't think we can break any rules or bunk classes as the college has laid down very strict rules for us. Since I will be staying in the hostel, the rules will be all the more strict for me," added Sonakshi. She also said that as students from various parts of the country and different cultures have come together in one place, they had an opportunity to know different cultures better. For now, the students are busy making new friends, getting to know their seniors and also getting a better understanding of their course.
