Children's world

A work by Ganapathi Agnihothri.Nadam is presenting the Chinna Kala Nadam festival on July 7 and 8, from 6 pm, at ADA Rangamandira, J C Road. This is a classical dance festival exclusively for children under 13. Over 150 children from 22 dance schools will be participating in this event.

Natyasaraswathi Kuchipudi Academy from Sanjaynagar will present their chinnara group with a kuchipudi dance recital. For details, call 9880162774.

Footwork galore


Aatmalaya Academy Trust will be presenting the bharatanatyam rangapravesha of Kruthika Ramesh, a disciple of Padmaja Suresh, on July 8, 10.30 am. The performance will be held at ADA Rangamandira,
J C Road.

Dancing away

The bharatanatyam rangapravesha of Rajini Pramod will be held on July 8, 6 pm at JSS Auditorium, Jayanagar 7th Block.

Fine act


Barking Dog Productions is presenting 'The Good Doctor', written by Neil Simon and directed by N Rishi, on July 7, 3.30 pm and 7 pm. On July 8, it wil be staged at 3.30 pm and 7 pm. The venue is Alliance Française auditorium. The best writers have often paid homage to other literary giants in some form. Neil Simon pays his, to one of the best — Anton Chekov. Chekov, known as the 'good literary doctor', is represented by Simon in a most unique fashion. The play gives a rare peek into the minds of — a mad man, a genius, a romantic, a humanitarian, a dreamer, a sadist, a voice of authority and the very question of innocent intrigue; except they are all the same person.

Short-fiction films


Suchitra Film Society will hold a two-day 'Short Fiction Film Festival' on July 7 (10 am to 5 pm) and on July 8 (10 am to 1 pm) at Suchitra Auditorium. The festival is designed to promote films made by new film-makers of any age. It is a platform to screen their works to increase awareness and understanding of their own personal and creative responses to current social and political issues.

Only short-fiction films, with less than 30 minutes' duration, which are not screened anywhere in Karnataka and produced last year will be eligible for entry. An expert panel will select the films for the competition section and a jury will select the winners. For details, call 26711785 or 9845055034.

Different strokes

An exhibition of myriad paintings by talented artists such as Archana Gupta, Ganapathi Agnihothri, Madhav Rai and anna Myer will be on display at the Renaissance Gallerie, Westminster, 3, Cunningham Road. The exhibition will be on till July 7.

Vocal concert

As part of Nirantara, a concert by Priyanka C Prakash will be held on July 7, 6 pm. She will be accompanied by H M Smitha (violin) and Ranjani Venkatesh (mridangam).

On July 8, 6 pm, a concert by Vivek Sadasivam will be conducted. He will be accompanied by Prema Vivek (violin) and B S Prashanth (mridangam). The venue is Ananya Sabhangana, 91/2, 4th Mail, Malleswaram.

Drama feast

The Academy of Music is presenting Ranga Sambrama - a Kannada drama festival on July 7 and 8, 7 pm at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. The drama troupe Antharanga will perform Uttara Bhoopa, a play based on questions and witty answers on July 7. The story of Uttara Bhoopa is woven from its characters. A middle-class family set up has been created and based on the numerous questions and answers, characters have been included in the play.

Gangaavatarana, a dance-drama directed by Sri Rajendra Karantha, will be presented on July 8. Gangaavatarana is based on the poems of D R Bendre. The drama is woven around the poems of Bendre.

The play suggests that the human world today is beset with so many evils that one Bhagiratha and one Ganga would not be able to get rid of the world of its evils.

'Rangapravesham'

The bharatanatyam rangapravesham of Akshatha A, a disciple of Ashok Kumar, will be held on July 7, 6 pm, at R V Dental College Auditorium, J P Nagar.

'Reprieve'

'Reprieve', a group exhibition featuring select artists from across the country, is on display at Sublime Galleria. The works of art displayed will range from paintings to photographs encompassing varied styles and strokes. The theme of the exhibition is inspired by nature and is an effort to take one back in time and to view nature through this pristine lens. Reprieve is also a symbol of achievement and healing, which are also reflected through these works. The exhibition will be on till July 31.

The line-up of artists includes Alok Utsav, Ananda Das, Dnyati Wagh, Pallon Daruwalla, Sripad Kulkarni, Sudeep Mukherjee, Suman Purushotam, Vijith Pillai, Basava Prabhu, Rachana Sehgal, Ashish Parmar and B P Kartik.

Kannada classes


Kannada Praasara Parishat will start its next batch of spoken Kannada and Kannada script reading and writing classes from July 8, 10 am to 1 pm at the Hosmat Hospital premises, Magrath Road, near Garuda Mall. The classes are held only on Sundays.For details, call 9448878569 or 9620386769.

Play

Neenaanaadre Naaneena by Sanket will be staged on July 7 and 8, 7.30 pm at Ranga Shankara. On July 8, there will be a show at 3.30 pm. This play is the Kannada version of William Shakespeare's 'Comedy of Errors'. It is set in Bangalore and is written and directed by Surendranath, with Sihikahi Chandru in the lead. He is supported by Pa Pa Pandu Jahangir, Srinath Vasishta and Kalpana Naganath.

The sets are designed by M S Sathyu and the music is scored by V Manohar. For online booking log on to www.indianstage.in.
