Geetanjali Harmonica Institute of Music's 'Annual Programme 2013' had students from a very young age upwards showcasing their talents to a packed Oxford College Auditorium in the City recently.

The programme started with Saare Jahan Se Achcha, which was followed by a Carnatic vocal recital —Maha Ganapathi — while another group performed a Shanti Shloka— Asthomaa Sadgamaya.

The programme continued with a fancy dress competition by the students of the institute, in which one of them was dressed like Kareena Kapoor from Jab We Met. Another was dressed as a 'Sad Cloud' full of acid rain, emphasising on the effects of pollution and more.

Then there was 'Me and My Institute', a slot in the programme, where a student, Tony Jayakumar, shared his experiences. "The fact that I started learning music at the institute when I was 38, while most of the other students there are much younger, was a different experience. I expected to see kids being kids. But here, most of the kids are very mature, and dedicated to music," he says.

Tony adds, "As a father, this has enriched my experiences and my outlook towards my own child." The programme had a bharatanatyam performance by Pooja Ghosh and her students. The performance included four pieces tishrajaali alaaripu, narayana hari govinda, a performance on a song from the film Virudh and a tilanna.
Commenting on the same, Pooja says, "Teaching 30 students, varying in ages from six to 25, was a challenging procedure but they learnt with some effort. It was an interesting experience."

Several Western dances and other instrumental pieces like 'Titan', 'Sweet Trumpet', 'When the Saints Go', 'Silent Night', 'My Heart Will Go On', Auralee and 'Joy to the World', were performed. Another creative concept called 'Stop Corruption' attracted a lot of attention. Arushi Goyal, a third grader who was a part of the corruption song, says, "I danced to Go Govinda and the corruption song, in this event. The corruption song was about how everyone runs behind money, and the influence of money, in today's society."

The programme also included a student orchestra that played pieces like
Tanmay Ladenu, Bheegi Bheegi, 'Drowning', Jawan e Janeman, Gujarish, 'I Just Called', Teri Meri, Tumse Hi, Jaadu Hain Nasha Hain and more. About the programme, a parent, Subhas N, says "It's nice to see such talent being showcased and a variety of these programmes keep everyone interested and stuck to their seats."
