Beauty is more than skin deep; this held true at 'Miss Karnataka 2013', which was recently held at Chowdiah Memorial Hall. Organised by India Classic Arts, the event saw girls from all over the State competing for the title of 'Miss Karnataka'. For some, it was a platform to showcase their talent. For others, it was a matter of pride to be part of such an event.

But unlike other beauty contests, the contestants were evaluated not only by a panel of judges but also by the audience. Roopa Iyer, the brain behind this event, says, "The title will go to someone who knowns the tradition and values of being 'Miss Karnataka'; someone who is beautiful both inside and outside. This is why we made the members of the audience pose questions to the contestants and based on the answers, the winner was chosen."

The evening began with an energetic performance by the 'Shadow Dance Team'. This was followed by the first round, where the contestants walked the ramp along with children with special needs. The evening also saw the audio launch of Roopa Iyer's movie Chandra and film stars like Raghavendra Rajkumar, Yogaraj Bhat, Harshika Poonacha, Risheeka Singh,Rajendra Singh Babu and many others came to show their support.

In round two, the contestants had to face the questions thrown at them. For Hema, who is a hotel management student from Bangalore, the competition was not only a learning experience but also a chance to make new friends. "We have all worked hard for this day and now that it is finally here, we will give it our best. For me, this competition means a lot. Every woman is special in her own way and what really sets this competition apart is the fact that women are judged on their inner beauty," she adds.

Sonal, a professional from the City, also took part in the competition and won 'Miss Beautiful Face'. "It's not about winning or losing. It's about representing a state with pride. I am proud to be a part of this State and would like to make the State proud of me as well," adds Sonal, who aspires to be an actor.

After two gruelling rounds, Archana — a girl from Mysore — was crowned 'Miss Karnataka 2013'. Nethra Shetty, from Hubli, was the first runner up and Radhika, from Bangalore, was the second runner up.
