The annual alumni meet of Oxford College of Science was held recently on the college campus, and proved to be a nostalgic experience for those who attended it. For many, it brought back memories of their days in college.

The meet started with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony by the dignitaries. The principal of the college, A B Vedamurthy, welcomed the alumni and wished them every success in the future.

He also informed the alumni about the accreditations and accolades that the college had received in the years since they had left it. He went on to announce that henceforth, the third Saturday of January would be observed as 'Alumni Day'.

This was followed by a cultural session, where students of the college entertained the audience with their talent and enthusiasm. Gunashekhar, who had studied electronics and physics in the college, says that his fondest memories of the institute revolved around the lunch breaks and sessions at the lab.

"We had so much fun at lunchtime and in the lab. I remember holding a cultural programme, which brought the entire department together. That fest gave me an opportunity to showcase my talent as a singer and people remembered me for it. Studying there was a great experience and meeting old friends at the alumni meet made me really nostalgic," he adds. The rank holders and gold medallists were honoured with certificates of appreciation. A huge turnout of about 400 alumni — from all parts of India and abroad — came for the session.

These ex-students, from different walks of life and professions, could be seen catching up with their peers.

Sandeep, who had studied electronics and communication, says that he owes a lot to the college and his teachers.

"They taught us many small things like how to talk courteously and dress well — after three years in this college, these tips brought about a change in us. The faculty was very helpful and mentored us on a personal level. Meeting old friends and getting to know their fields of work was a great experience," says Sandeep.

Hamsini, who had studied fashion design at the college, adds that she is glad that the college hosted the meet, since it gave her a chance to catch up with old friends. The ceremony concluded with vote of thanks, followed by lunch for everyone.
