Abandoned by his mother

Mother of Mine' is set against the backdrop of World War II, when more than 70,000 Finnish children were evacuated to neutral Sweden to avoid the conflict. The film narrates the story of one such boy, nine-year-old Eero, a child who increasingly feels abandoned by his biological Finnish mother and yet not attached to his Swedish surrogate mom. The story focusses on Eero's difficulties in adjusting to the language barrier, resentment for his new mother, his longing to go back to his biological mother and his fears of abandonment. Tune in to 'Mother of Mine' on UTV World Movies at 8 pm on January 25. It stars Topi Majaniemi, Esko Salminen, Maria Lundqvist, Marjaana Maijala and Aino-Maija Tikkanen.

Differences in the judges' panel

Catch the 12th season of 'American Idol' on January 25 at 9 pm on Big CBS Love. In this episode, the four dynamic judges — Mariah Carey, Keith Urban, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban — stop over in North Carolina and as always, are on hand to help decide who will be going to Hollywood.

One particular contestant, though, saw the judges bickering for a long time. With Mariah, Keith and Randy all going against Nicki, the least experienced judge of all sticks to her decision adamantly. Catch the show to find out what happens.

Ready in a new avatar

It's been six months since Tiger Shroff's debut in Sabir Khan's Heropanti was announced. And now, a leading lady has finally been found for Jackie Shroff's son — model-actress Kriti Sanon. Producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Sabir Khan had decided to start shooting for the film this month, despite the fact that a heroine had not been found. Reports claiming that Suniel Shetty's daughter being a prime candidate were false. But now, Kriti has been finalised for the role.

Tiger's role is reportedly akin to the toughie that his father played in Subhash Ghai's 'Hero' — but far more action-oriented. In fact, Sajid has ordered a rigorous regime for the boy so that he looks like a "non-gym-going ruffian from a town in Uttar Pradesh". The idea behind the training is for Tiger to lose his city-bred gym-going look. And now that Tiger is ready in his new avatar, the shooting of the action scenes will start.

"I've been training like crazy. Every morning, there's gymnastics and dance rehearsals. In the night, I run and I practise martial arts. It's a very focussed regime that doesn't leave me much time to for a social life. That makes me a kind of not-so-cool guy," he says.

"The closest I'll get to a girlfriend is the one I'll have in my film," he adds.

Attempting something new

The newlywed Vidya Balan, who stars opposite Emraan Hashmi in the upcoming comedy Ghanchakkar, says that her marriage won't have a bearing on her career in Bollywood. Ishqiya and 'The Dirty Picture' showed Vidya at her boldest and helped her win many awards.

When asked if she would be okay doing bold roles or kissing scenes post marriage, Vidya says, "That I am an actor and I am married are two different things. Both of us (Siddharth and I) respect each other and our work."

The comedy, directed by Rajkumar Gupta, releases on June 21. This is Vidya's first film after her
marriage. "This film is special in a way as it's releasing after marriage. It was great working with Emraan this time," she adds.

The 35-year-old would be seen playing a Punjabi housewife in the film. "My character is loud, boisterous and she feels she knows everything. She wears her heart on her sleeve. It is the first time that I have attempted something like this," she wraps up. The actress tied the knot with Siddharth Roy Kapur of UTV in
December last year.
