A splendid heritage unravelled

Unique works of artisans from various parts of the country are on display at the 'Sampoorn Nature Bazaar' .

There's no better way to adorn your house than with traditional items. But it is a tedious task to find unique pieces from the rural parts of the country. However, at the 'Sampoorn Nature Bazaar-2012', an exhibition being held at Chitrakala Parishat, you will stumble upon all these.


One can see a range of textiles, handicraft, folk paintings and food from across the country under one roof. However, the works of the rural artisansare the main attraction.
At least 170 artisans, out of which 30 national awardees, are participating in this exhibition. Around 150 colourful stalls have been set up.

Attracting crowd from all over the City, the exhibition has everything from terracotta decorative pieces to beautiful ethnic jewellery, from pure cotton 'kurtis' to intricately designed carpets. Also available are saris, dress materials, ready-made garments, cotton sling bags, anklets made of beads and threads and brightly coloured-jewellery in all shapes and sizes.


Home accessories, including ceramic and brass hanging lamps, tribal iron and metal crafts, vegetable-dyed lacquer ware, products fashioned from natural fibre, handmade paper and kalamkari painted cloth are on display. These items are bound to lure you.
The exhibition also features tewa art, brass and bead items from Madhya Pradesh, animal horns from West Bengal, jewellery made in Rajasthan, crystal ware, embroidered items, white metal products etc.

One could see delighted youngsters visiting the exhibition, who were also curious about the skill and craftsmanship involved in the creation. One will surely go ga-ga over the products made of banana fibre, wood, hand-made paper, bamboo and bronze.

Shreesha, a visitor to the exhibition, said, "I am regular to the exhibitions conducted by Chitrakala Parishath. This exhibition has a good collection of different items from across the country. And I am definitely going buy something." The exhibition will continue till July 8.
