A cocktail of confusion

It's a bit of a battle to sit through Samar. As the familiar action-surcharged, romantic tale unfolds, you are caught in a war within.

Offering nothing new in terms of plot or screenplay, director Thiru has only burnished it with technical finesse and feel, hoping it would strike a chord with viewers. While Vishal's fans may find it worthwhile, for the rest, it's an exercise in futility.

Going into detail, Samar has Sakthi, a forest guide, who thrashes the life out of those denuding the rich resources. In love with Roopa, he is left desolate when she suddenly disappears. However, a surprise air ticket from her has him flying to Bangkok, where he is caught in a conundrum.

Sakthi is whisked away, mistaken for a tycoon, even before he can contact Roopa. Soon he befriends Maya and confronts the notorious hoodlum duo of Rajesh Arunachalam and John Frederick.

How, after much song and dance, chases and crashes, the plot thunders towards its cliched climax forms the rest of Samar. The film appears more of a tourist trek around Thailand, Ooty and Kerala.

Vishal matches the billing, while Trisha is a pretty prop in designer dos and Sunaina, a by-the-blink-of-the-eye presence.
