Urban truths
Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan is presenting, under the banner of the 'Indo-German Jamboree', a unique series of events addressing the future of the City and the pressing urban and civic issues. The artists participating are Suresh Kumar, Surekha, Prayas Abhinav, Sunoj D, Bhavani G S, Bharathesh G D, Dimple B Shah, Raghu Kondur, Madhu D, Nandesh Shanthi, Suresh Jayaram, Mangala Anebermath, and Ayisha Abraham.
The exhibition will be on till February 3, 10 am to 6 pm. Another exhibition, 'The Post-Oil City - The History of the Future of the City', will also be on display during the same time. 'NextBanglore + Spot On Bangalore', that includes lectures, workshop and City tour by MOD Institute, will be held on January 19 and 20 and February 3. A guided architectural tour will be held on January 20, 10 am to 5.30 pm by Clara Berger, a trained urban designer and landscape architect. For details, call 25205305/06.

A bharatanatyam recital by Sangeetha Ananthanarayan, a disciple of Geetha Ananthanarayan, will be held at the The Indian Institute of World Culture, No 6, B P Wadia Road, Basavanagudi on January 18, 6 pm.

Geetanjali Harmonica Institute of Music will be celebrating its eighth annual day cultural celebrations on January 20, 2 pm to 8 pm.
It will be a cultural extravaganza with live performances of Indian classical dance, classical and western music, fine art presentations etc by over 300 students of the institute. The venue is Oxford College Auditorium (near National Public School, HSR Layout), 32, 19th Main,17th B Cross, Sector 4, HSR Layout.

On January 19, 6 pm, the 'Tenth Annual Saipadananda Sri Radhakrishna Swamiji Memorial Endowment Lecture' will be held. The topic is 'Sri Radhakrishna Swamiji — A Unique Saint of 20th Century' and the venue is The Indian Institute of World Culture, No. 6, B P Wadia Road, Basavanagudi.

Toto Funds the Arts is holding the ninth annual 'Toto Awards' on January 19, 7 pm at Alliance Francaise. Film-maker R V Ramani will be the chief guest.
Handicraft festival
The rich culture and lifestyle of North-East India is on display at an exhibition being held at 1 MG Road. It has exclusive products that are completely eco-friendly and entirely hand-made. Bamboo and cane procured from the dense forests in the North-East have been used to make handbags, baskets, vases, trays, hats and bamboo boxes. Other handloom products like shawls and saris are also available. The exhibition is on till January 20.

Nadasurabhi Cultural Association is presenting a grand vocal recital by TNS Krishna on January 20, 4.15 pm at Indian Heritage Academy Hall, 6th Block, near police station, Koramangala. Krishna will be accompanied by C N Chandrasekhar on the violin, B C Manjunath on the mridangam and Gururaj on the morsing.

Cobalt Forum of Art and Music, along with the Department of Kannada and Culture, Government of Karnataka, are organising Varnachaitra, an art festival on January 20. This programme will feature an art exhibition, art camp, painting competition, in which K Ramachandran, senior artist and 10 young artists will be participating. Poornachandra Yakshagana Foundation, Kondadukall will present Dakshayajhna, a yakshagana on the occasion. The festival will be held at Balakrishna Rangamandir, Rajarajeshwari Nagar from 5 pm onwards.

Attakkalari India Biennial Festival '13 is presenting a workshop on 'Lighting Design' by Horst Muhlberger from Germany on January 19 and 20, from 10 am to 6 pm, at Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts, Wilson Garden. For details, call 42039291.
'Nataraja Samman'
The 'Sadguru Sri Thyagabrahma Aradhana Kainkarya Trust' is conferring the Nataraja Samman for the first time ever on five legends of Indian classical dance, namely Vyjayanthimala Bali, Birju Maharaj, Yamini Krishnamurti, Sonal Mansingh and Bharathi Shivaji.
The eventwill be held on January 19, 6.30 pm at the Tamarind Tree Resort, Konanakunte. The proceeds from the charity dinner will go to the Kidwai Memorial Hospital, specifically for pediatric cancer patients.
The event has been conceived and designed by Venkatram Reddy and Usha R K. For donor cards, call 9845082329 or 26532314.
