Heis ambitious and has worked hard to realise his dream. Manju Prabhas, co-director of Shivarajkumar starrer Kaddipudi, confesses that as a child, he was always fascinated by films and wanted to get into a similar line.
And today, Manju says that getting behind the camera and learning the nuances of direction from Suri, the director of Kaddipudi, is a humbling experience.
Metrolife chatted with Manju to understand what got him hooked on to the Kannada film industry. Manju hails from a small village in Gauribidanur on the border of Karnataka.
He says that he grew up on a diet of Kannada films and always nursed an ambition to act and get behind the camera someday.
His film 'Ball Pen', produced by Srinagara Kitty, won the jury award for the best film in the recently concluded 'International Children's Film Festival' and this award has given Manju more confidence to pursue his passion -- films.
He says, without a second thought, there are three people whose work he has been following — Yograj Bhat, Guruprasad and Suri. "These three directors are extremely talented and they've carved a niche for themselves.
They each have a unique way of telling a story," says Manju. Manju feels working with Suri has taught him how to handle the camera, edit scenes and what to add and what not to add in the script.
Manju is also essaying the role of a sub-inspector in Kaddipudi and has acted with Duniya Vijay in Devru, '9 to 12' and Paagal.
"An actor must be able to sink into the character and a director must not only be able to tell a story from within but be able to spot stories from the many things happening around," he says. Manju has already begun working on his next script, which he says is a commercial film.
