Padmapriya is clear about what she's doing and what she wants to do in future. She's making a slow but steady transition from films to academics for a while. She has now taken a break and is pursuing her masters in public administration from the New York University.

"I have been shuttling between India and New York. I always had an interest in public administration and governance. When I got a scholarship to do what I wanted, I didn't think twice," shares Padmapriya, who points out that she's always been juggling multiple things and was never stuck doing only films.

She strode into movies with Malayalam film Kaazhcha and won critical acclaim in Tamil films like Veeralipattu and Satham Podathey. In the much-hyped Pazhassi Raja, she played a tribal woman, skilled in tribal warfare. She feels that she may not be popular in a particular genre of films but is glad that people remember her for the varied roles she has played.

"I still have a couple of projects that I've signed but I've always liked doing a lot of things along with films. I think the film industry is undergoing a transition of sorts and the audience's preferences are also changing," Padmapriya tells Metrolife.

Padmapriya thinks she's always managed to strike a balance between films and other interests. "All my moves have been for a definite purpose. I have never belonged to that category of actors who do one film after another. But most of the projects that I've worked on till date have been appreciated by critics," she notes.

Padmapriya has signed a couple of projects including 'Ladies and Gentleman' which is steeped in humour. "I've always enjoyed comedy and this film has a lot of circumstantial humour," she says.

She feels Indian films are dramatic in their form and content. "There has been a change but I think the dramatisation of characters still remains. I would like to do a full-fledged romantic movie someday," she observes.

Will she stray into direction or maybe scriptwriting? "No, that's not my cup of tea. My strength lies in acting and I think I will stick to that," she sums up.
