Bold colours rule the season

This season, Bangaloreans are experimenting with new fashion and it seems that their tastes are getting bolder. Colours like black and red are the rage right now and largely, the youngsters are opting for western attire, with an Indian twist.

Fashionistas say that people have become very conscious of what they wear to work, shop, lunch out and don't repeat their clothes, no matter what. Metrolife gets a peek into what fashion designers and the fashion concious are wearing this season.

Youngsters are willing to experiment with a few wild combinations. In some cases, they confess that they don't might going slightly overboard either. Maggie Bernadette Gomes, a professional, is partial to a particular designer store and picks up all her clothes from there, whether it is for a party, wedding or even work wear. "It's the season to splurge. I get my clothes designed and custom-made according to what I want. And when you are complimented for the same, the temptation to buy more is irresistible," says Maggie.

Mitali Rannorey, an engineering student and model, feels that red and black are the colours of the season. "I picked up a black netted skirt for the New Year party I went to and paired it with a halter-neck top in a lighter shade. I accessorised the outfit with some handmade silver jewellery and semi-precious stones. I think it's fun to mix junk jewellery with semi-formal wear," says Mithali. Naren Pathikonda, a student, dresses in keeping with the occasion and is particular about what he wears. "This is the only time of the year that I can bring out all my formal stuff and wear it without feeling conscious. I would wear a formal shirt with narrow-fit trousers for a party. It would definitely be polos with jeans for a casual outing and I would be most comfortable in three-fourths and a T-shirt when I go to a hookah bar," reasons Naren.

Designers feel that people's fashion preferences change almost every other day. Designer Paresh Lamba thinks it's the red carpet look that's ruling wardrobes this season. "Black, white and red are in. People can go ahead and dress up without indulging in over-the-top dressing. Men could wear lemon, cream, and pink shirts for a lunch out with black ties. Women could go for an evening look with long dresses," he says.

Designer Ritu Kumar feels a lot of people are going for western clothes — but with an ethnic touch. "Black and red is the choice for many. The traditional look hasn't gone out altogether. Western clothes are never complete without an Indian slant" she wraps up.
