Nestled in a corner in a crowded locality in Koramangala is Bikaner Sweets Centre, which offers a wide variety of sweets and namkeen from Rajasthan.
The eatery is pretty popular among the residents of the area. As the name suggests, the sweets in the eatery bring out the flavours of the colourful state of Rajasthan.
In the three years of its existence, it has almost become a second home to many youngsters. Boondi ka laddoo, kaju ki barfi and gond ke ladoo are some of the popular items here.
The gaajar ka halwa, which is a winter delicacy as well, and mung ka halwa are a must try. The crisp, fresh samosas are delicious. They are layered with three types of chutneys, which add more flavour to the snack and give it a nice punch. They sell like hot cakes in the evenings.
The gaajar ka halwa is perhaps the best one could get. Rich and incredibly tasty, the flavour lingers on. Shabbir Patel, who regularly visits the eatery, says that the food here is affordable.
"The quality of food served here is very high and the kachoris and parathas are made right in front of the customer. One can request them to add the ingredients of one's choice," he adds.
Owner Devilal, who hails from a small village near Ganganagar in Rajasthan, says that he had come to Bangalore for a visit and ended up opening a small shop here seeing a hole in the market for Rajasthan sweets and namkeen. "It has been three years and my shop has fared well. People, especially youngsters, like coming here as they get a homely feel. Many of them are regular customers who have their lunch and dinner here. The prices are affordable and young professionals often buy snacks and other items in the evening," he informs.
The highlight of the place is the huge kadai of kesar and badam milk, which is always on the boil. It is kept at the entrance of the shop. The milk is fresh and is transferred from one mug to the other in a typical rural style. It is served in quite a tempting fashion.
Laced with cashew nuts and pistachios, the milk has a strong aroma of kesar.
For those who want to indulge in a bit more than just sweets and snacks, the eatery also has various kinds of parathas like aloo paratha, gobi paratha, mooli paratha and paneer paratha. "The parathas are served with coriander chutney, curd and pickle. The sweets are made in our workshop, which is in Belandur. The samosas and parathas are made here in the shop," he says.
