ArtMantram', in association with National Gallery of Modern Art and Indian Council for Cultural Relations, presented the 'ArtMantram Women Achievers Awards 2012' to three renowned women achievers recently as part of the 'Art Mantram K K Hebbar Art Festival 2012'.
'ArtMantram' has been honouring women whose achievements have been outstanding in the fields of art, music, dance and theatre. On its third year of hosting the award function, artist and sculptor Anjolie Ela Menon, writer Shashi Deshpande and the famous exponent Suma Sudhindra were felicitated for their exceptional contributions in their respective fields.
"I'm delighted the way 'ArtMantram' is flourishing and I'm honoured to be a part of it," says Anjolie.
Vani Ganapati, Rashmi Hegde, Rekha Rao, Lalitha Ubhayakar, Poile Sengupta, Pushpa Dravid and Sara Arakkal are a few of the people who have been honoured with this award in the past.
'ArtMantram' is a three-day art fest organised by 'ArtMantram' and the 'K K Hebbar Art Foundation'. The festival opened with exhibitions showcasing the works of K K Hebbar and other artists at Chitrakala Parishat. The second day of the festival witnessed the screening of two documentaries on K K Hebbar as a tribute to him at the Alliance Francaise de Bangalore, which included a Kannada documentary by Girish Kasaravalli and an English documentary made by the Hebbar Foundation.
The final day of the art festival witnessed not just the felicitation of the awards but also the presentation of 'ArtMantram K K Hebbar Scholarships' to students chosen from the fields of art, music, dance and theatre.
After scanning and scrutinising the work of various students across the nation, two students were selected for the scholarship. Young and budding artists who went beyond their curriculum and academics were selected and awarded with these scholarships.
Sangam Doddamani, a student who has finished her masters in fine arts and Vanitha Anaya Yaji, who pursued her masters in fine arts, received the scholarships this year.
"I'm very excited and happy. Along with all the appreciation, my work needs money as well because the raw materials are quite expensive. I feel more responsible and motivated to bring out something much better," says Vanitha, who uses fabric as the main material to create art. The felicitation function came to an end with eminent classical dancers Sathyanarayanan Raju, Seshadri Iyengar, Srinivas R and Mithun Shyam highlighting the power and manifestations of women though their graceful and power-packed dance performances.
