The Yuva Sourabha programme, organised by Kannada and Culture Department, saw a young bharatanatyam dancer, Sneha Narayan, mesmerising the audience with her grace and poise. The programme, which was held at Nayana Hall at Kannada Bhavan, was watched by many young artistes and art lovers .
The show opened with the traditional inaugural dance, where the dancer invoked the blessings of Ganesha. The inaugural item was Gambhiro Gananayakam based on Gambhiranatta raaga and set in adi tala. The second item was daru varnam, based in the beautiful Khamach raaga and set in adi tala. Sneha captured the stage with her style and elegance. A senior student, she did justice to her mentor as well as her training.
The next item was a Javali, an abhinaya piece, Saako Ninna Sneha, based in kapi raaga. This piece showcased the best of her skills as she emoted varied expressions and emotions like fear, amusement, pride, anger, hurt etc.
The item, which followed this one was perhaps the icing on the cake — a devarnama, based in purvi kalyani, set in adi tala. It sung the praises of little Krishna who is adorable and naughty at the same time. Mudhu Daro Ranga received a loud applause from the audience as the young dancer portrayed myriad expressions.
Varun, who came for the show and is also a bharatanatyam dancer, finds her a beautiful dancer. "Her expressions are beautiful. She has been learning for a long time and she deserved to get a bigger stage to perform.
Many young dancers like us have come to watch her. It is encouraging to see her dance so confidently and I think it is every dancer's dream to be applauded and appreciated," he adds.
K Raman, who had come to watch her performance, says that he was impressed by the abhinaya part of the show. "She is extremely expressive and I liked the last two items.
The music and choreography was very entertaining. The items were not lengthy which kept us interested and the vocals added to the good show," he notes. Her performance concluded with a tilana in valachi raaga.
