The Garden City College is one of the very few colleges in the City that threw a new year eve bash for its students on campus. This was done to ensure that the students party safe and was also that rare occasion when the faculty and students got to party together.
The campus was decked and transformed into a party zone of sorts. There were songs and dances — all planned and executed by the students.
The celebrations began with a song by Priyanka Kundhan. This was followed by a variety of song and dance performances and fashion show till midnight.
The media department did well to compile and screen a review of the college, in the year gone by. Partying hard with the students was Dr V G Joseph, chairman of the Garden City Group of Institutions who in his speech wished the students a brilliant year ahead and asked them to shed the past and move on.
"Our primary concern is safety of our students. We have been organising new year parties on the campus for the last 18 years. Students are shown a video of achievements through the year, so that they enter the new year on a positive note." When the clock struck midnight, the students broke into a loud cheer and cut a cake welcoming the new year on a grand note.
The students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were glad that the college hosted an evening worth remembering. They felt that it was safer to party on campus than venture out on a new year eve.
Bipin, in first-semester MSc microbiology, says that he liked the fashion show the most. "The menu was also well planned and it's great to begin the new year on a positive note." Rachel Kurian, a first-semester MBA student, confesses that she felt safe on campus and was thrilled that the management took the initiative of hosting a grand bash.
"The party was fun, complete with a sumptuous meal, fashion show, music and dance. We had loads of fun and above all we were safe. In fact, I danced till a dropped, that's how much fun I had," she says.
