A break from the classroom

The students of Sambhram School of Management recently organised this year's edition of 'Convergence', their two-day annual fest, on the college premises.

The fest is a much-awaited one at the college, because it provides the students with the perfect chance to let their hair down and have some fun. It included a host of events that aimed at giving the students a good time — but with an academic twist.

These included a business quiz and debate for the more academically-inclined, as well as many cultural and fun-filled competitions.

There was, of course, a line-up of song-and-dance routines.

Many of the students prepared special routines, which they performed during the fest. Most of the performances were solo — while the dances included a few traditional South Indian dance forms, the singing portion of it saw a lot of film songs being rendered.
The other competitions included a flower-arrangement event, collage-making and a cooking without fire competition.

In the collage-making competition, the students were given two themes — education and team building — and they had to choose one, on which their collage would be centred.
They were asked to collect scraps of paper and along with the final product, had to speak to the judges for two minutes about the theme of their creation.

A lot of innovative ideas came to the fore, with students making collages that depicted the changing trends in the education industry, as well as the ways in which advanced technology could be used to positively impact it.

In the debate, the students had to argue for and against a very relevant subject — that of foreign direct investment, and how it would have an impact on the economic growth of the country.

Nikhil Sharma, who secured the third position in the debate, was arguing for the motion.
"I argued that it would have a positive effect and will be beneficial for the common man.

It will also boost economic growth — we've taken to globalisation and privatisation, so why not go for FDI as well? Through this, the issue of middle-men will be removed," he points out, adding, "I secured a total of 60 points for my argument and came in third."
All in all, the students had a great time during the two days of the fest. It was a welcome break from the monotony of the classroom.
